On a side note who would be considered more elite Seals or Delta. Is one even better than the other or are they just specialized in different areas.

Both are some bad mofos

More apt comparison would be DEVGRU (Seal Team Six) and Delta.

Delta, best on the planet for that.

Or FBI HRT, which undoubtedly includes some former operators from various origins.

I knew one. He was a straight up juice monkey. Had a heart attack and died young.

I have a friend that I suspected for a long time of being a SEAL...There were just things about him...The way he talked, the way he handled a firearm, how much it bothered him when people were rude or inconsiderate. We got drunk one night and I asked... He's a private person and I shouldn't have asked, but... Alcohol. As drunk as we were he changed the subject.

Later, he was showing me some pictures of him and his friends when he was on base in Norfolk...all three people in the photo were in dress uniforms... All of them had the tridents pinned on.

He's definitely not what anyone what would expect.

No SEAL. However, a family member was Army Special Forces.

I think being reserved is a pretty common trademark for guys from the special operations community, but in my experience, at least with friends or family, there hasn't been much reluctance to acknowledge they were on a team or in an SF group.

Now if you start treating them like rambo, I bet they'll tighten up. But a little curiosity, combined with at least a base understanding of what they do/did, how special operations works, etc., has gone a long way in getting folks from that community to tell me a little about it.

The SEAL compound was two down from ours in Kandahar in 2010. Lots of downtime and everybody Army and Navy fricked with the PJs who never, ever had a mission.
2 of the 19 SEALs that were killed when the Chinook got shot down in 2011 were from Shreveport.

They are not trained to fight, they are trained to kill with weapons

The hand to hand combatives those guys learn are not very advanced and not at all practical unless you work them as often as they do their weapons training

Which doesn't happen at all. So with a rifle and 100 yards or in a shooter house, you have no shot

In a fistfight, they have the advantage of being mentally and physically tough, but their actual fighting skill isn't anything special

DEVGRU and seal team six are not the same thing. DEVGRU is the top 1% of the seal teams, they are sent any place on the planet they are needed. Seal team six has operators on each coast who can be deployed to the nearest hot spot.

My cousin was in DEVGRU for over a decade. He was a seal for many years. He's a humble guy you wouldn't expect it from if you didn't know it. He is a bad dude though. He certainly knew plenty of hand to hand stuff when he finished BUDS

People like me are hired to train them hand to hand combatives from time to time

But what does water boarding training have to do with fighting skills?

I studied in Raleigh NC and lived in Cameron, NC at the time. I went to church with a guy who ran a special training unit contracted to train SOF at FT Bragg. He was a sniper specialist. He was not a member of the military but highly training in certain skills. I asked him if he was in the CIA. He said no.

So let me ask you, do you think he could deploy and execute a mission if someone told him to send it?

Just because you train them does not mean you are tougher than they are. By having survived BUDS alone they could kick the ever living shite out of most individuals. From what I understand, they have to go through grueling training to get to be a SEAL after BUDS. You're an MMA guy you should know that there are fighters and then there are warriors. These guys are killers and warriors.

I just do not think it is fair to put them in the same sentence as the average Joe.

Well in that case either the definition of DEVGRU has changed, or every teams guy I've spoken with and every book on the subject is wrong.

When I was much younger I was in Lafayette Shooters with my brother. There was a skinny guy there that my brother knew. So, we went talkt to him and my brother told me he was a SEAL. I said to him, "You must be a mean SOB". His reply to me was, "Nope, I am a pretty cool guy but I can become your worst nightmare real quick." I was about 14 and thought that was the coolest shite ever.

According to Wikipedia you're right. The post I made before was the way it was explained to me by my uncle, his son is a seal, and he was in the navy as well.

He tells me about some of his base duties, what his job is, how he's basically deployed at a minutes notice...But never anything specific. When I met him we had the what do you do conversation and he explained a little. Like I said though, he's pretty private... A hell of a lot of fun, but it's obvious he just doesn't want to talk about that aspect of his life. I guess he just doesn't like the attention.

And it really isn't my business. I'll tell you this much though... He's the.. one guy that isn't family that I'll answer the phone for at 3am
