Is I-10 closed between BR and Ascension?

No clue, as of last night if was down to one lane. Know some people headed that way from both 10 and airline were stuck in traffic for a long while.

ShrevetownTiger, "only a day" nothing. In Youngsville, 1400+ people showed up to one address of an elderly couple ... the man had been bawling in his carport and someone put out a call for help on FB.
In "only a day" 370 or so houses were guttes ... It's NOT "only a day" .. it's a "day filled with charity and kindness".
God bless and safe travels.

just a PSA for those with flood insurance. Make sure there is a dollar amount stated in the column labled "contents" on your policy. Just had a friend get word that since there was a zero dollar amount in that column on the flood policy, they will not get anything for contents. Need to make sure contents coverage is on both homeowners and flood policy. Easy to overlook but painful to find out.

There are two thread on the Money Talk board. Below is one of them:
LINK /
The other one is about property values post flood.
Long story made short, we had a very large flood in Cedar Rapids. Businesses and rental properties aren't eligible for FEMA funding.
What we did is organize and develop programs that were acceptable to the federal government, some designed around job saving, to fit the definition of affordable housing.
Look, I went through it. It's a tough road for a business or rental property owner with no assistance available except a SBA loan.
Everything we developed resulted in federal grants to businesses and rental property owners. We had to organize, and we had to get political.
We'd like to help. I met some of you at both football games, and I've been impressed with how your community has got to work. It reminds me of what we did up here.
Today, and I'll have everything by next Tuesday or Wednesday, I received permission to release all of our programs to whomever down there wants to organize to help currently unaided businesses and rental property owners.
It's going to be a long tough haul. Something I never want to go through again. So what I'm offering is a predeveloped, already vetted by the federal government outline on how to help those that get zero FEMA assistance.
Someone get me an email address, and I'll get this started.
This is how we operate up here in Iowa. None of us that organized this are large fans of any type of government, but we had all paid taxes, and all suffered large uninsured flood losses.
It needs to be said we passed a LOST, and as involved as we were in businesses and rental properties, we also took care of owner occupied homes first, and that strategy helped us out, although it took longer.
I've thought a lot about you guys down there. Our entire downtown here was under water. It's 9 years later now, and I still have debt from it. No sense having any more debt that you need to if you can replicate what we did. Fist in the nation business and rental property disaster assistance.
Happy to help. All the guys up here are. Although still didn't like losing to you last time we played, but we got over it.

I heard someone with FEMA on the radio that said not to expect FEMA trailers.
They have stored a bunch of them after Katrina....but they are not in any way suitable for habitation.

If traveling from out of town into BR, I am being told gloves, masks, and rubber maid bins are needed.
Heading there tomorrow and bringing what I could find here in town.
Looks like cleaning supplies, food, and clothes are around ( not plentiful).
Gutting gear is needed more.

Does anyone know if the North Baton Rouge Landfill is open and operating on regular hours? I've tried calling all day and all I get is a busy signal.

Re: inundation map in ArcGIS -- not exactly right in the Azalea Lakes subdivision.
ETA: very incorrect in that area.

Heavy duty garbage bags also. They had some at Home Depot this morning but they were going fast.

What are the best products to use for mold remediation/prevention?
We're close to that point now. What do I need, where do I apply, what are the best products?

Hang on, let get the thread.

From Stout:
By the way OP, if after all of this you have some mold to deal with and do it yourself, don't listen to the OT and/or people and us bleach and kilz. Use an actual antimicrobial (search microban on ebay) and Zinsser makes some mold blocking primer. The mold you will most likely deal with won't be toxic but you can get a test kit to be sure.
If it is toxic, you may want to get a company like Servpro to come in with their equipment to truly remove all of the mold spores. There are nightmare stories of people not blocking off the original room with the mold and running the proper HEPA filters and mold spores spread throughout the house bothering people for months even though no mold was visible.
I have posted this before for those that DIY on the mold but the best way to go about it is to remove any contaminated drywall and insulation, treat the studs or ceiling joist with an antimicrobial, let them dry out completely, add a mold blocking primer, then put back new insulation and drywall. A mold remediation company will do all of this plus run an air scrubber and dehumidifiers to remove all mold spores. You can try to simulate this using HEPA filters inside air purifiers and a store bought dehumidifier.
