I wonder if a Dentist or an Optometrist can prescribe Hydrocodone now?

Optometrists obtained the ability to prescribe c2 I believe (definitely c3) back around 8 years ago upon completion of a specific course.

Good troll attempt, though.

Very glad to hear it. Seizure meds can have some pretty severe effects associated with them, but fortunately they're rather rare to see. Still, much better to be controlled on something without the risk. I'm fairly familiar with the lot of medications she's on. Hope things are on the upswing and you don't have to uproot the family like you were considering in the past for easier access to alternate treatments.

obviously, pharmacy school is much more about treatment than diagnosing, but it could easily be adapted, if the need be....

Unfortunately, until that is changed, you'll see resistance to the idea of standalone pharmacists as mid-level providers with a continuance of PAs and NPs who, for the most part, just aren't all that great at being prescribers of medicine.

IDK if he was. Obviously I knew dentists could but I didn't know optometrists could write me Roxys!

shite, we HAVE to anyway, why not get PAID for it as well.... the way it is now is pretty unfair, if you ask me, and to be honest pharmacists would make much more efficient prescribers than PA's, NP's, etc... i don't say that because i am a pharmacist, i say that because they are so terrible.... other than alleviating patient load for physicians, i don't see their use....

Fine with me as long as we can dispense meds. What's good for one is good for all.

It's state by state, and their license is on the line if they get investigated. They have the power to. They very rarely have reason to.

Posted by biglego She has seizures resulting from encephalitis. Is baclofen addictive? She just started it.

Baclofen isn't addictive, but if you are on it for a while, at decent doses, you can have some serious side effects if you stop cold turkey. Does she have serious spasticity (increases tone/stiffness)? If she has significant tone/spasticity, and bad side effects from the Baclofen, you can consider a Baclofen pump (delivers Baclofen to the CNS, while minimizing side effects such as sedation). Hopefully, you have her plugged in to a pediatric neurologist or physiatrist who is managing this, and not her pediatrician/family doc.

Yes she gets stiffness but I didn't like the idea of the pump at this point. She's got good doctors at Texas children's, a neurologist and physiatrist.

An open discussion on why you want to take both of these medications.

I take it you're a pharmacist. My dad works and lives in Saudi Arabia.

Your Dad can get some things from a pharmacist in Saudi. I assure you he is not able to get Hydrocodone or any other narcotic.
