It appears the cable industry has identified a problem but no solution.

There is no possible way the current state of the economy can be blamed on millennials. This shitty situation was going downhill long before their daddies started screwing their mommies. They are going to inherit the situation and have to deal with it. Will this bunch of spoiled brats be able to identify and elect enough leaders that can begin to correct the this? I say they won't. This will continue the "march toward totalitarian socialism" that was spoken about.

That was my thought as well.

Another millennial trait - when faced with a valid prevailing point start making personal insults.

But to answer your question - I do not and have never worked for cable companies. Nor do I even have cable.

It's funny, we actually cancelled cable last December BECAUSE of the birth of our first child. We don't let her watch TV, and we don't spend time watching like we used to. Adding Hulu to our already existing Netflix and Prime accounts ends up saving me $120 a month.

The younger generation isn't even spending time watching traditional TV. They are on tablets and computers all the time. A decade from now I wouldn't be surprised to see a spotify for TV type subscription model.

How retarded

I have a family.

Netflix has an entire "kids profile" full of kids shows.

Amazon is putting out some great original kid show.

Youtube has all kinds of kids channels.

Not to mention all the other channels on available on Roku specifically created for kids.

WTF are these people talking about?

There have been a number of posters who have presented legal alternatives to cable, yet you resorted to "well you millennials will still steal it."

So you ignore prevailing points and interject insults, yet cannot handle someone calling out your insults.

I sense a lack of self-awareness.

Cable companies rob people blind so whatever.

My only choice in my neighborhood was Comcast with a two year contract. I got sling TV and have not looked back

What a false statement. The amount of kids programming between Hulu and Netflix is more than enough.

You guys do realize that as people move from cable to Internet supplied content that the cost of the Internet content will increase right? At the end of the day you will be paying roughly the same dollars but for only the channels you want instead of those plus a bunch you don't want.

I agree with this possibility, or could we possibly even see land line cable services switching to limited data plans limiting streaming content?

Add in HBOGO and one or two others and you are easily at $80 per month.

So pay the same price for tons of on demand content with no commercials and the ability to record & watch on the go. Gee whiz, you're right cable is a way better deal grandpa! Pass the mouth tabaccy!

The fact of the matter is that I don't want to spend $150/month on all the crap they offer when in fact I might actually use 5% of the channel offerings in that package.

So, they can rightly go frick themselves.

I am over 40 and cut cable. I won't be going back either. If they really believe the younger people will give in just because they have kids, then they are retarded. I find Netflix and Amazon prime have more than enough programming for kids. My kids range from 2 yrs to 18 yrs old and they like using the roku more than they did with cable.

I like my Directtv. Always had good service and when major storms knock out all the cable, mine still works.

You'll get less for same price. See how Netflix keeps increasing its streaming price plus you have to pay for Internet access. Add in HBOGO and one or two others and you are easily at $80 per month.

The market will dictate what happens. Online content may increase in cost, but if people are willing to pay for the convenience of watching what they want with no commercials, then the price is fair. If people don't see the value then the price will drop again.

It's called economics, and simply saying "the price is going to go up, so millenials are dumb for cutting cable" is very shortsighted.

shite, cable companies are starting to offer on demand and streaming services for devices. They see the tide shifting, and know the end is inevitable if they don't adapt.

I have a six year old and cut the cord before he could watch TV. We went on vacation and he was watching TV. He called me in the room and said "Dad, they keep stopping my show to talk about toys, make it stop".

They were commercials. He had never seen one before and he didn't like it.

Yeah, I'm never going back to cable/dish/directv

Unfortunately for us, that means that the Cable industry, with the help of Congress, will simply destroy all of their competition with regulations and throttling.

If you think about it, they already are. Either they're fighting to keep the studios from allowing the HBO's of the world to go on an independent subscription model, or their fighting to be able to throttle your data if you're able to get around it. It's a tenuous time for consumers that could have terrible repercussions for the future of consumers if it continues to go poorly.
