Concrete barrier is the best way to prevent crossover collisions.
I agree. Just put a 2' ft gap every 10-20' to let water run through

I had a friend who died in a crossover accident in 2013. The wreck he was involved in would have been a one car accident if these cables were there. Instead, 6 cars were involved and one death occurred.

Motorcycles are death traps to start with.

Met a guy on an airplane once.
His daughter was killed in a head on collision where a car crossed the median on the interstate
His family started a program to get the barriers installed in their state

So we should make the highways less safe for 100's of thousands of motorists everyday to protect a hundred or so donorcyclists...I see....

5 up vs 41 down votes as of this entry.

Looks like people think you are wrong.

In all cases you must look at the pluses vs the minuses. I think you didn't give due consideration to the pluses.

I am totally perplexed as how this is either a plus or minus. Grass and vines contribute nothing.

Cable barriers are better than nothing....but concrete barriers should be the preferred design especially in states with a poor philosophy on road maintenance like Louisiana.

OP must think grass and vines ruin the durability of a steel cable

From a probability perspective, the chance of a crossover at the same place as a damaged cable system is low.

There are certainly factors that influence the probability of crossover in certain areas. fwiw

This looks like a pretty effective alternative, not sure of cost though.

saw an 18 wheeler eastbound on I-12
last month or so that was down in the medial and was prevented from crossing into oncoming traffic by the cables

Traffic engineer here.

Cable barriers are the most thing aside from a super wide clear median which isn't possible or practical in most cases.

There's an over 90% reduction in crossover accidents due to the cable barriers.

And they are actually cost effective. Your shitty state just needs to keep up its infrastructure better.

I once saw a car from the other side lose control. I swear to you that dude would have plowed into me after crossing the median, but the cables rejected him and kept him on that side. To me, that result is way better than crossover head on collisions at 70 mph each.
