Why should the federal government care about what rules a county in a state make up regarding treatment of a flag?
Because the Federal Government is supposed to protect our rights. The constitution and the government do not grant us rights...they were put in place to protect our natural rights. Putting somebody in a cage because they hurt somebodies feelings seems to be a gross violation of those natural rights.

didn't the supreme court rule years ago that flag burning was protected under the 1st amendment? If so, not sure how a parish government thinks they can write laws that are unconstitutional.
Edit: just looked it up, Texas vs. Johnson

They can write unconstitutional laws all they want. But it'll be challenged if they attempt to enforce it and will cost the Parish even more money. There are numerous state laws and civil code articles that are unconstitutional but still on the books.

litigation. The ACLU is already wanting to get involved. Any legal action taken against this law is a slam dunk since it has already been addressed in the supreme court. The parish will spend a fortune if they actually try to defend this law.
But unless someone violates the ordinance and is hit with a penalty, is there really any right of action (or standing) at this point to challenge it? It's just a rule on the books for sake of the rule.

Exactly. And the sheriff in EBR arrested people for an unconstitutional law that was still on the books (but the DA didn't prosecute). But the state legislature still refuses to repeal it.

Some troll is probably going to show up at the Iberville border and light one up.

I don't know if it'll cost money to defend, Bc I bet the parish doesn't ever try to enforce it.

Is it ok to burn the parish flag if you are not a fan of mullets?

Yeah, good luck getting that to stick, Iberville.
The council is virtue-signaling. The fact that the two sides(conservative, flag-waving, bible-beating "baws" and pussyass, SJW, commies) fail to see how much they both despise freedom while claiming to stand up for it is nothing short of perplexing and mostly leaves one absofrickinglutely flabbergasted at their stupidity and ignorance.
Stop fricking-up the country, morons.

I mean I wouldn't call it "butt hurt", people have a legitimate concern and have a right to be personally insulted by it.

US Supreme Court says otherwise.
True. The parish will lose in court but they can still arrest someone, hold them for several hours, and generally frick up their day.
Even though the charges get dropped they may discourage the behavior by simply being a pain in the arse.

I hate flag burning, I don't like seeing it at all, but I also respect free-speech and the rulings of the Supreme Court.

i dont think it should be unconstitutional to burn one for the hell of it, but i do think you would be a complete shite of person to do that.

Thats kind of my definition of freedom. Everyone should have the freedom to express themselves, for better or worse.
This is the proper stance to take if flag-burning bothers you. A true American patriot is one who supports freedom even when its the freedom of someone to do something they themselves hate.
There are tons of things people do that I loathe but I would defend their right to do them to the bitter end because the slippery slope of government intrusion isnt a slope I ski on.

Which is fine. I'm offended by people who chew ice, but I'm not going to try to outlaw the act.

I live in Iberville Parish and when I first heard this my first thought was "how many people are burning the flag in Iberville Parish?"
While I think it is extremely disrespectful to burn the American flag, I don't let it bother me when someone does it because, first of all that is what they want. People bring attention to them by getting all bent out of shape, but... I forgot what comedian it was who was talking about free speech in his standup, this was years ago, but he said "If you are going to support free speech you should realize that there will be times when people are going to say shite you don't like". In other words, you can't claim free speech when it is convenient and then get upset when people say or do shite you don't like.
I am not a lawyer, but is it even legal for a local government to make a form of free speech illegal? Like I said, I think burning the flag is completely disrespectful, but if they make that illegal, then whatever will they make illegal?

Does anyone else think of the "Amendment To Be" parody from Simpsons?
Kid: Hey, who left all this garbage on the steps of Congress?
Amendment: I'm not garbage.
(starts singing)
I'm an amendment-to-be, yes an amendment-to-be,
And I'm hoping that they'll ratify me.
There's a lot of flag-burners,
Who have got too much freedom,
I want to make it legal
For policemen to beat'em.
'Cause there's limits to our liberties,
At least I hope and pray that there are,
'Cause those liberal freaks go too far.
(spoken)
Kid: But why can't we just make a law against flag-burning?
Amendment: Because that law would be unconstitutional.
But if we changed the Constitution...
Kid: Then we could make all sorts of crazy laws!
Amendment: Now you're catching on!
Kid: What if people say you're not good enough to be in the
Constitution?
(sings)
Amendment: Then I'll crush all opposition to me,
And I'll make Ted Kennedy pay.
If he fights back, I'll say that he's gay.
(spoken)
Congressman: Good news, Amendment! They ratified ya!
You're in the US Constitution!
Amendment: Oh yeah!
