Even if our constitution allows it?

When did people stop supporting the constitution?

Nothing says backwoods more than making a law ruled unconstitutional 28 years ago by a the supreme court of the country that said law is trying to protect the respect and honor of.

Proof that some government officials have too much free time. Spending time on passing a law that is already known to be unconstitutional.

Plus, there's already an unconstitutional flag desecration law on the books at the state level. RS 14:116. Passing a redundant and equally unenforceable local ordinance means the parish council doesn't have enough work to do and should get pay cuts.

Really? Probably since the day it was written a portion of the people haven't supported it.

Is this the same parish that tried to outlaw saggy pants, shorts, and skirts? The answer is yes:

Multiple parishes have tried that, including St Landry Parish.

Thats true. I guess I wasnt expecting some self professed small govt conservatives to continue that tradition.

This simply is someone scoring easy political points, because as has been stated in this thread already, SCOTUS has deemed such laws to be unconstitutional.

I hate flag burning, I don't like seeing it at all, but I also respect free-speech and the rulings of the Supreme Court.

Laws are ever-evolving. If laws were never challenged or changed then blacks and women wouldnt be able to vote etc. You guys act like if something is a law once, it's a law forever and that's not how this country works.

They should just make it legal to fight people that burn flags.

In order for this to be changed, a similar case would have to make its way to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court vacate its prior ruling on this issue.

That isn't happening.

if you want to burn a flag then fine
but at least do it in a respectful way and do so when determining a flag is no longer in use

i dont think it should be unconstitutional to burn one for the hell of it, but i do think you would be a complete shite of person to do that.

Again, yeah thats true, but the odds of our Supreme Court ruling that burning a flag is no longer protected by the first amendment is very unlikely.

I don't like it either, but I also follow legal precedent as decided by our Supreme Court.

This is a huge waste of the parish's time and resources.

The dude who advocates for fighting the most is usually the first guy to get his butt whipped because he's actually a giant wuss.

this is scientifically verified.
