I own an American Staffordshire Terrier and I know breeders that sell them for about $2,500 a pup.

After adopting mine, I found her Facebook add from the shelter, which called her a Gaff pitbull. I researched it, and apparently it's a am staff breeder that breeds show dogs. Being from a reputable breeder, instead of a flea market redneck might explain why her temperament is so good.

The large 80+ pounders are usually from a bloodline like Gotti or Razors Edge, that are usually bought by people wanting to fight them, or wasn't a huge oversized, intimidating looking dog.

No, of course not. But if you're not the alpha, you want be able to train and socialize them correctly. you have to be a firm and consistent owner.

These dogs have been popular for the past 100 years. People seem to forget that this breed was a beloved pet for many decades. What happened?

I get that bites are different from full on attacks but you are far more likely to be bit by another breed. Pits score quite high on temperament tests, at least the ones tested scored high.

They are the current popular breed for low income/low class america. They raise their kids to be POS why would you not expect them to raise POS dogs too?

Completely agree. And that is with every breed, regardless of killing power. While I do think the solution to pit bull fatalities is simple, the bottom line is an adequately contained animal does no harm. Be it a boxer, pit, or poodle, I don't want unrestrained dogs in my hood.

Eh, maybe. I think you need to drive through the hood and see for yourself. I don't think it's as big of an epidemic as the media would like us to believe.

Sure you might see other breeds, but there is no arguing that it is the most popular of the breeds.

It really sucks for the breed. Even though they have a natural disposition to being more aggressive, their ownership segment exacerbates the problem.

Guess I can cross off dogtime as a reliable source of information.

No dog breed varies by 55 pounds for the breed standard - esp in that range. If it does then it is mixed with something else.

Especially since the breed was naturally only animal aggressive. But, if you abuse an animal to the point of making it just aggressive, the breed it, then the breed is more dangerous than useful.

It must be a Louisiana thing to shite on pitbulls. The only time I ever see someone speaking negatively about owning a pitbull is when I get on this site.

Meh, unfortunately the demographics of LA make it a particularly noticeable problem.

My brother has a very large blue Doberman. Loves my mother, my father, and my brother. He minds me okay but I hardly see him. But, he has aggressive tendencies towards strangers.

Yea if you go searching for negative reviews of pitbulls, otherwise it isn't a topic of discussion. I'm willing to bet majority of the American population doesn't hate pitbulls, not even close. I know plenty of wealthy non-trashy folks who own pitbulls and the like. And as an anecdote I've ran into many pitbulls while at the park or dog park with my own dogs and have never been in fear of being attacked or killed. This hysteria is nonsensical, it's like reading about plane crashes and being afraid to fly.

Furthermore, if you are around any type of trash, whatever that trash owns and whatever environment they are apart of will more than likely be trash too.

only 2 kind of mixed pits: those that have already attacked and those still planning their attack.

1 pit bull death every 11 days is the average. I am not in fear of pits. I am good with animals and have never had any animal attack me but the only thing that concerns me with a pit over any other "dangerous" breed is the way they will bite and hold

Your average is skewed by the amount of idiots who own dogs, specifically for fighting. Luckily, I've never run into any dog fighting owners.

An owner makes the dog dangerous. I think your concern, while valid, can easily be avoidable by not being around trashy owners. This is just my opinion because as I stated previously I've been around many pits and the only time I see people shitting on them is when I read this board.

Not necessarily. Male pitbulls are often 80-90 pounds. But they are short, often just at a grown man's knees. If their back goes up to your thighs, it's probably not a pit.

You don't know what you are talking about.
