Being the alpha in your house doesn't stop a monster from eating a kid outside your house.
ETA: And stats show that those other breeds are pussies when it comes to killing kids.

I own an American Staffordshire Terrier and I know breeders that sell them for about $2,500 a pup.

I will make a bet with anyone here that I will trust my dog around strange children more than anyone else's dog.

From dogtime.com:

Height of 18 to 19 inches for males, 17 to 18 inches for females. Weight ranges from 30 to 85 pounds.
When I adopted my pit, and found out she was only 3 months and not 6-7, like they said at the shelter. I spent countless hours researching everything about the breed.

And I'll make a bet that I don't give a frick how much you trust your dog around my child.

for some reason I don't believe you have one Sabi...but if you did would you leave a loaded gun in a room with 5 yr olds? Pretty much the same thing with a pit bull

A very common misconception is that APBTs are muscle-bound hulks that weigh in around 85 pounds (39 kg) or more and this is generally not the majority. Most of the APBT's that are that large have been crossed with other breeds and are being called American Bullies. The general public often gets American Bullies mixed up with the American Pitbull Terriers. American Pitbull Terrier vs. American Bully

Why are staffys lumped into the pitbull category?

He has tattoos and works out. Prolly has one.

I don't own a pitbull, but ignorant people think I do.

He's good people. Just makes poor choices.

Not anymore. Now owning pits is the "humane, look at me, I don't judge a book by its cover, and I can fix this poor animal" thing to do.
These dogs have been popular for the past 100 years. People seem to forget that this breed was a beloved pet for many decades. What happened?
I get that bites are different from full on attacks but you are far more likely to be bit by another breed. Pits score quite high on temperament tests, at least the ones tested scored high.
I'll be honest, I'll take a stray pure bred pit over a lap puppy any day. I don't particularly want the health problems associated with designer pit bulls but give me that 35 pound pit. Reason being is I've had such great luck with them in the past. I have zero reason to think I would have any more or less liability from having a pit vs a golden retriever. My wife got eaten up pretty badly by a golden so I'm inclined to believe they can be arse holes.

We have a pit mix. Sweetest dog I've owned. He was a rescue and has been great. He's never bit anyone but will bark at some men. I've had a lab, a border collie, german sheppard, among other types of dogs and he's been just as great as all of them.

I didn't ask to own a pitbull. I didn't want to own a pitbull. But I rescued this puppy that needed a home. Ten years later, she's the best dog I could have ever hoped for. Very good with kids and is best friends with a cat. They even play rough sometimes. I'm knowledgable enough about the breed to know it really is about the owner.

These threads still crack me up

If you have small children, temperament and pain threshold are paramount. Small children can be rough with dogs so sensitive breeds like chihuahuas and cocker spaniels are bad choices.
Labs are great because they have higher thresholds and great temperaments.
