How in holy hell is Washington not on this map?

I did hear some time back the mayor and chief of police fell out and the chief pulled his folks off I-49. But I did see them working it not long ago.

Got a ticket in Georgetown once for speeding. Never heard of the town before. Officer ended up giving me a ticket for “not wearing a seatbelt”.

Golden Meadow
. Their heyday as a speed trap was before Hwy 3235( the back road) was put in. Had to travel the two lane at 35 MPH for miles at that time. Got stopped twice. Once with a car full of kids heading to Fourchon. I had about four violations and the cop let me go. Just by chance I had bought him a drink at the Glo Room once before. Second time I had a local with me and we drove straight to the police chiefs house after receiving the ticket. He came out of the house in his drawers and a wife beater. He called the cop on the radio and told to bring the ticket to his house right now. Tore it up and told the cop “ Mais don’t stop that man no more, dats Don’s fren, day gonna bring us some teal ducks, you like teal ducks ? “Cost me two dozen teal. This was in May. We were shooting North bound teal as they were coming home.

Here is what the locals would say:

Drive slow see our town.

Drive fast see our jail.

I feel for the many people who had to drive down to Grand Isle pre backroad days (before 3235).

It feels like an eternity driving through Golden Meadow on LA 1 from the few times I had to drive through there. But back then, you did have a lot more commerce in that area. You could stop at Dufrene’s bakery for French bread and other pastries, the Twin Eagle for gas, Two Sisters for clothes, Kirby’s for a Poboy, etc.

Someimes, a whole Parish is in on it. St. John Parish has been loading its coffers for years on speeding tickets. They even shot radar coming off of the Veterans Memorial bridge for a while. Talk about an accident waiting to happen when folks are jamming their brakes on the downside of a bridge.

there is zero research to support this statement.

this is an illegal method of revenue generation.

Lecompte is the world heavyweight champion of this. The fact that it isn’t on the list makes this article fake news.

That stretch of LA 19 through Slaughter, Ethel, Wilson, and Norwood used to be brutal. Add in the camera fines between Zachary and Baker too. Felt like a two hour drive from BR to the state line avoiding those traps.

For future reference, anyone travelling up highway 65 thru Ark. to get to Branson, beware of Damascus, Ark. The little berg was flaunting the speed trap scenario so bad that the district attorney stopped them from doing it. About a year later the DA let them start issuing tickets again but with a very stern warning of not to overdo it this time.

Washington used to be.

But apparently they pissed off the wrong people at the state level and they got fricked

2009 legislature passes the law saying municipalities that have annexed part of interstates can only take the fine if the driver is going 10+ Over the speed limit.

Well Washington was infamous for pulling you over if you were going 2-3 over so that law hurt them.

Then in the past few years the max speed on i-49 was changed to 75 in some sections.

That first change occurs RIGHT before you’re getting to Washington.

So even if you’re going 80 before Washington, if you’re still going 80 (or slightly over) when you hit Washington you’re still not 10+ miles over.

I make the trip past Washington fairly often and while there are still officers patrolling the route, it’s nt nearly as prevalent as it used to be.

Making a town into a speed trap is a short sighted plan.

Bunkie did it for a long time, and when the interstate went through, nobody who didn’t absolutely have to drive through Bunkie did.

For a town like Golden Meadow it makes more sense because there’s no way to bypass it.

Krotz spring, and Washington are not on the list because they are smarter than th rest.

If you get a ticket in those places, you have 2 options-
1- pay cash or cashiers check and they won’t report your info.
2- pay by check or credit card and your insurance co gets a report.

No way for the state to know how much money they make.

My deal is there’s enough out state/non-local people coming through to write all tickets they want.
I have no problem with that for source of revenue.

Just don’t tax your locals that spend their money on that particular community .
I had this conversation with a cop couple days ago .... he looked confused.

I didn’t read the article but I know that the DA in west Baton Rouge is paying cops $40/hour detail to write tickets.
