And no, going from gas to electric, which will happen in ten years or a hundred

What makes you think this is guaranteed?

Fossil fuels at are a finite resource. However long you think we have, it's finite. We have no choice but to eventually develop something else, and electricity can be generated in many other ways. Most are still too expensive, and some turn out not to be viable, but they get more efficient every year, and we are going to need a replacement sooner or later.

Can I agree with all of this, think Tesla is a pioneer in the field, and at the same time believe that they have a serious safety issue that investors and the company are trying to minimize in order to keep the company from having to recall just about every car they've sold to avoid the consequences? Because I think that is what is happening.

One would think, but some of the people in this thread don't seem to grasp that.

What I grasp is the spin the OP and many others are churning out to make it look as though a tesla is inherently dangerous. If I called CNN every time a gas car blew up, you'd think it was a safety pandemic. It's a hack job. They want to kill Tesla while they develop their worthless union crap. Good luck. I won't ever be buying again.

3 exploding teslas in 3 weeks.

wow. so you don't think the green energy electric car lobby is just as bad as unions? they're kinda on the same side here.

The finiteness of fossil fuels is also debatable or at least so far off as there will be something much bigger to worry about in the meantime. O&G companies have scientists too, and they are working everyday to extract these fuels from deeper in the earth. Want to have an electric car because you like it? Fine. But nobody can argue with any certainty that it is a viable long term option at this point.

electricity is derived from magic beans. you don't need that nasty oil & gas industry if you just had a car that ran off batteries.

Exactly. Right now they have a 1/2 inch piece of aluminum under the car. Now that we can see that is not sufficient, whats next? What happens to the battery life and range when the have to put heavier duty metal to protect the batteries?

ETA: Oh, and again.....how long before one of these hot wheels will be able to pull my boat?

the one in mexico was speeding, around a curve, hit 2 walls and then a tree. The driver was also drunk

The driver ran away from that accident (fled the scene). I don't think it is fair to include that with driving over something on the road.

The one that ran over the hitch is the most alarming one. The first one involved a very major accident at high speeds. The second one involved a big collision as well. The driver was fine in all 3 situations

You are going on record that hydrocarbons are 100% finite?

Was thinking the same thing. Did the processes that produced fossil fuels stop the first time a hole was punched in the ground?

re: Tesla is a crappy car

so what?

how about some FACTS for a change:

quote:

Tesla is also in the unique position of offering a product that is valued by the government for being a leap forward in energy technology. Because of this, the federal government as well as the state government of California, where Tesla is located, offer substantial amounts of money as incentives to continue the development of clean-energy technology.
quote:

Through these political efforts to bring electric cars to the wider market, Tesla has been endowed with credits worth about $35,000 for each Model S sedan that the company sells. While these subsidies are viewed as a wholly positive aspect of helping gasoline-alternative vehicles reach the masses, there is a slight twist to the tale: Tesla can then sell the green energy credits to other car manufacturers, who snap them up as fast as it chooses to put them up for sale. Car makers need a certain number of credits to operate in California, where pollution regulations are especially strict. And Tesla has plenty of credits on hand to pass along.
quote:

According to analyst estimates, while these credits have earlier been responsible for Tesla’s survival, this year the system may put an extra $250 million in its pockets. ”At the end of the day, other carmakers are subsidizing Tesla,” said Thilo Koslowski, a Gartner analyst.
quote:

Critics of the program label Tesla’s actions as extortion and rail against the state tax dollars being used as incentive for cars that a disproportionately small portion of the population can afford.

What is unclear now, but should become clearer on Wednesday, is the degree to which the government is propping the company up

yet kork claims tesla has no advantage over any other car maker.

just a good ol' fashioned american market-driven success story

uh. He was traveling at high speeds, hit two walls, and ran into a tree yet he was completely unharmed.

That is impressive. I shouldn't have to spell that out for you

Well other companies are offered incentives as well. The major auto companies have had absolutely no help from the government

Also, I don't necessarily disagree with your opinion on the government benefits

whats impressive if you bothered to watch the video is the massive explosions that occur as the car batteries become unstable.

So do you disagree that being able to walk (run) away from an accident that like is impressive giving the magnitude of the collision?

Drunk people walk away from bad wrecks all the time.

And didn't you say you weren't in here defending Tesla earlier? Because that's all you seem to be doing right now.
