Oh, and Hatcher dorm had a bar in the basement. You could always find a game of "Quarters" going

A DWI was no big deal back then (in the early 80s). We didn't think twice about drinking and driving.
Not gonna lie, that kinda sounds like a thing that has changed for the better.

Used to be tons of cheap housing outside of campus so there were a lot of house parties. Big ones too. I remember the place no one wanted to go was Teakwood on Gardere because it was so far and close to the hood. Plantation Trace was a popular party apartment complex. Then they built the Commons and Sterling on Burbank, but they had stricter rules and most newer places ere nicer than those and more expensive. There were less lewds so less great parties near campus.

My experience at another school in a later era was nothing like this. I find it fascinating and could read about it all night.

A group of friends and myself lived in two adjoining duplex townhouses on bright side lane. There was an alley that ran in front. After graduation in 1992, we got a permit from the city to block the alley. Hired some BRPD guys I knew. had a beer trailer with 45 legs of bud light, set up 8 port a johns, and had a band. At one point there had to be 1000 people there. We stopped tapping kegs after keg number 25 and told everyone we could get more if passed a hat. Waited 15 minutes then turned the kegs back on. Ended up turning a profit when all was said and done. Our first apartment was at plantation trace in 1986. Had an annual "no fat chicks" party there for 3 years. Complete with a banner strung from one building to another overhe parking lot in the back. 4 bedroom 2 bath for 400 a month and everyone had their own door leading out from your bedroom

nothing, I mean nothing, can top the kappa sig green parties I crashed as a high schooler each spring, 3 days of fricking insanity, 24 hour rotating bands, drinking, smoking, chasing out of their fricking minds strange, bathtubs and trash cans of jungle juice, beer delivery trucks running 24/7, annual gathering of tinker bell kappas from all over the southern US and their ready to party dates, holy shite my buddies and I lived for that 72 hours of hedonism every spring...

As a guest when a senior in HS, was mind-blowing going from huge insane party to the next. As a member later, was 3-5 days of solid partying and debauchery. My liver still hurts.

Paddy Murphy at the SAE House pre-Ben Wynn and the DKE/SAE joint parties after midnight all come to mind.
