Damn that's high.

Fun stuff is fun.

I’m here to seize opportunities, work with extremely talented individuals, and raise a family in a super safe environment.

But do I miss the culture I grew up in? Yes.

Raliegh/Durham seems like a good area....college town feel coupled with medium sized city. Lot of high salary jobs in the Research Triangle...probably in the medical fields also. LOTS of PhDs and Masters degrees in the area....which can be good and bad....many of those people are educated waaaaaayyyyyy beyond their intellligence. Not as bad as Los Alamos New Mexico but close. I had a satellite office in the triangle between 1996 and 2006...lot of money being spent in the area at that time. Kept about 20 employees busy all the time and made money so that could have clouded my opinion of the area

I dont.

I enjoyed the positive things about new orleans. Loved LSU games and spent a lot of time being out on the water in Lake P. and south Mississippi.

South LA has almost nothing else going for it as far as working in a cutting edge field. And New Orleans is dangerous AF.

Idk man…. The wife and I have a lot more “fun” here than we did in ‘ol BR. But yea if you wanna go to LSU sporting events and sit on the boat in lake ponchatrain every weekend, i guess i would have a pretty negative opinion as well

Great area, excellent economy, still relatively affordable.

Close to VIR, one of the most beautiful tracks in America.

I would say it's 15 years because

City Proper Population
Raleigh, NC - 462,219 Charlotte, NC - 864,871

Metro Population
Raleigh, NC - 1,509,231 Charlotte, NC - 2,805,115

Don’t be sensitive.

What can we do for fun in the triangle?

When I’m not busy at Duke, the most fun I’ve had is going to Eno, Umstead, or jordan lake. We like saxapahaw but that’s a bit of a commitment and limited. We like pilot mountain, asheville and the coast… but that stuff isnt in town. The DPAC has some good shows every now and then and I havent made it to a bulls game yet.

Im soliciting advice.

I know that Barney rented a corner room at the Y and loved it so much he moved there to become a detective.

I lived there for 3 years and loved it. I would still live there if I hadn't gotten addicted to skiing and/or there was decent skiing nearby.

I live in Wake Forest. About 15 minutes from Raleigh. It's nice and has everything you could want I suppose but I liked it better 10+ years ago when there wasn't so much traffic. It is growing way too fast.

I last lived in Raleigh 5 years ago. I heard way more Yankee/Northern accents than Southern accents at work.

At my last job, 2 of my largest clients were in Raleigh. I did a lot of onsite work there. I had a small client in Wilson and Lexington too. Those places were very much Southern though. Baws

Only difference between a yankee and a damn yankee is the yankee went home and the damn yankee stayed.

My parents moved down during the first wave. You would see “go home yankee” bumper stickers back then.

I'll respond to a lot of random comments throughout this thread.

I'm a tenth generation North Carolinian who grew up in and lives in Raleigh. If you want upscale Southern culture, then live inside the beltline (which does NOT include all land inside 440, just roughly the northwest quarter inside 440). Cary is known as the containment area for relocated Yankees. Many of the towns near Raleigh and Durham have been suburbanized by now but there are good people located throughout the region. Downtown Durham was shittier than NOLA twenty years ago but Capital Broadcasting/the bourgeouis bohemians have cleaned it up. The Durham Bulls are a great time. The only true college town in the area is Chapel Hill (someone mentioned that Raleigh feels like a college town, which is false unless you live in West Rawlee). All in all, it's a great place to live, but the Yankees are here too.

Oh and Bojangles is better than Biscuitville, though Biscuitville is very good. The Cajun Chicken Filet Club Sandwich at Bojangles is God-tier. As are Bo-Berry Biscuits.
