I was living in Grovetown close to Fort Gordon, but just moved into a nice older neighborhood in Augusta which is close to I-20/520 and lots of shops and restaurants. Evans is your nicest area, though if you're a true OT baller you can look at some of the very nice homes along Walton Way.

Commute is fine. 45 minutes max.

Even further out you likely won't have that commute, depending on where you live and work of course. Traffic is nothing like Atlanta.

There is a nice public course there. Just jump the fence to play, they keep it locked for some reason.

Unless you are working at Fort Gordon I wouldn't recommend it. There are some okay parts, but there aren't a whole lot of shops/restaurants in the area compared to Evans/Martinez.

Columbia County is the newest area, heavily white population, lots of development, overall best public schools. Affluent and well educated population.

Columbia County also has real traffic congestion, higher taxes, no true towns / downtown area, and nothing historic.

I'd recommend west Augusta.
Look over off Walton Way or Wheeler Road.
There are nice homes in Summerville/"Hill" area.

Augusta is pretty inexpensive and you can get a nice house cheap.

If you want to be outside the city and live on a golf course you can always move to West Lake or Jones Creek in Columbia County.

There's actually decent restaurants and other decent golf courses in the area.

Augusta is getting better. Downtown area is starting to get revitalized and is actually a place to hang out now.

Lived there for my middle school years. Columbia County. Lakeside High School area.

I loved it as a kid. I could walk just about anywhere, and my friends and I would explore the woods quite often.

Jones Creek was the hot neighborhood. Pretty pricey. Westlake if you're rich.

But for adults? Not sure it would be good at all. Nice quiet area, but nothing's there.

Seems like Evans, Martinez, and possibly North Augusta are the places to be. Thanks for the info.

Im guessing that public schools arent great in augusta, may be wrong its just my assumption since noone brought it up. That being said are there any good private schools in the area?

I was actually shocked at how crummy all the shopping centers, restaurants, etc around the golf course looked when we went to the Masters 2 years ago.

If you're in Augusta proper you'll definitely need to find a private. Aquinas is the best in Augusta. Augusta Prep would be another too look at. Columbia Co Public Schools are pretty good.
