Augusta is on par with Baton Rouge for shitty areas, but the murder rate is similar and the traffic is lighter.

I see the sentiment here is largely negative about Augusta. However I'm finding other places online where people say as long as you're in west or north augusta it's really nice.
Let's face it baton rouge is a shithole.
Although I hated living in Minneapolis, it was light years nicer than any place in Louisiana with maybe the north shore as an exception.

From what I've read

Martinez
Evans
And some parts of augusta

North Augusta
Granitville

Are all really nice places to live.

So much misinformation going on here it's not funny.

You want to live in Evans. Visit Augusta it's 15 minutes away. The CSRA is a good place to raise a family.

School system sucks on the SC side of the river. Same for Richmond county (proper Augusta).

Graniteville I would definately avoid. Lot of new construction there but you can find a comparable house in Evans for 20k more. Housing is a great value in the area.

Take the time and get a realtor to show you around.

I work in the Medical District and didn't want to deal with all the traffic/lights on Washington Rd, so I just got a house off Wheeler Rd near Doctor's Hospital. now I either drive across the street or straight down Walton Way. No problems.

Sending kids to Laney or ARC and their feeder schools is a failure as a parent though. If you don't have kids I would definately live down off McDowell or Heard Ave. if you have the coin to send your kids to private school I would also recommend Augusta proper.

You can get some great deals on a house off wheeler road right now.

No kids, so wasn't worried about schools, just location.

You going to Fort Gordon?

I lived in Augusta for about a year. Augusta is beautiful but it's a very traditional southern town and very cliquish. Downtown is cute and there's a half-decent mall (or at least their was). Traffic isn't too bad, and there are a couple of decent bars where I met some fun people. The drive to Atlanta wasn't too long, but it was very boring. Summers are long and hot, winters were short and mild.

I enjoyed getting tickets to see the practice rounds to the Masters. That whole town seems to rent out every extra bed for that weekend.

The southern part of town was not as nice as the north/north western side. Evans and Martinez seemed like they were the booming suburbs. They pronounce it Martin-Ez there. You won't have trouble finding a nice place on that income. I remember a steakhouse called The Snug sort of on that side of town. Rinehearts or something like it was a little more rustic.

Sometimes I drove down to Savannah and Charleston over the weekends when I was there. Wasn't too bad of a drive and makes for a nice mini-holiday.

Paper mill on the south side of town used to make the place smell funny sometimes. Locals called it Disgusta, but there are worse places to end up.

Unless you can afford elite housing and private school education I would live in Aiken, or North Augusta. Much like living in N.O. (But cleaner, less thugs, and not trashy). if you live close to Augusta National you can rent your house out during the week of the masters for anywhere from 5k-to the sky's the limit.

They got some skrip clubs off Broad skreet and some chemical plants off the Savannah River. Oh, and if you go go eat at a restaraunt and want something to drink besides sweet tea, you better say so.
