I've a spent good amount of time in all of Louisiana's major cities (New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, Monroe, Lake Charles, Hammond, and Alexandria) due to work. Alexandria was the worst by far. I didn't find a single good restaurant, and there is a lack of entertainment options.

Good luck.

ETA: I take back the no good restaurants part, I did find this little place that was a house converted to a lunch restaurant that had some good plate lunches. I don't remember the name, but I'll try to look it up.

ETA2: I think it was Word of Mouth downtown.

I had SD's last time I was in town... Not bad, but not as good as Debarge's.

It's one of those places that was hopping long ago but stalled out in the early 80s and has been on the decline since. Seems like Pineville is still pretty quaint and there's plenty of outdoor rec things.

I have never once found that town to have a single redeeming quality.

Like most have said....It's a pretty boring place.

Bar - Finnegans Wake, Top Shelf Cocktails
Restaurants -
Spirits (Food has gone downhill, but vibe is cool)
Pizza - BJ's & Wildwood
Lunch - Red Kettle(plate lunch) & the Cottage
Mexican - El Carro (hole in the wall, but it is legit authentic..patio only)
Lou & Laura's burgers, poboys & chicken
Janohns (actually in Boyce, about 10 miles) a little more upscale, but not uptight....good food

Maybe for you. I try not to be a snob, but I really do dislike it. I feel their is no variety.

I think if you took the best from Alex and pit it against the middle of the pack in BR or Laf then Alex would lose in a land slide.

I do however like the Shrimp Friend Rice from The Wok.

Agreed. As far as mexican goes, Los Portales is the best in town, but if you are willing to drive about 20 minutes then Mi Tierra in Forest Hill is pretty legit.

eh...its not that bad

middle of the pack BR and Laffy restaurants are going to generally suck, especially BR restaurants

there are only a few places that we eat when we go back, which are generally Outlaws, the Cottage, or Spirits
