My $.02 on Alexandria based on my limited experience/knowledge:
- It's a relatively short drive to better places
- Eat at The Cottage for lunch
- There's good outdoors stuff in the general area

not really

its 1.5 half from Laffy, 2 hours from BR, 1.5 to LC, 2 hours to Shreveport....

that is Alexandria's problem

its a small town in the middle of nowhere

which for some reason people want to compare it to much more populated cities/areas, which isn't exactly fair

It's definitely the best I had when I lived near there. I lived in Leesville/Deridder for 5 years. It's sad when you get excited about going to Alexandria because where you live is even worse, by miles.

This is the OT, so most will make it sound worse than a Turkish prison, but it's fine. I once dated a girl from Alexandria and every time we went for the weekend I had a great time. Ask around when you get there, you'll find plenty to do and eat.

Not with 49 at 75 now...

Laffy is an hour & 10

SPort is hour &35-40

you,re right either way, its a little to far to just go randomly grab dinner in Laffy, especially with kids..

They need to hire an out of town consultant from a cool city and start trying to bring a little culture to the place. The downtown "renovation" is a good start but when getting a Moe's is the best thing to happen in several years, there is a problem....

a casino on the waterfront would do wonders for the downtown and bring in a lot of money

but those goddamn Pentecostals...

Are you serious??

I mean its decent food, but I wouldn't give it to much credit...It's your run of the mill White Cheese quick mexican spot

El Carro is legit...But no one knows about it for the most part..

Anything out of the locals comfort zone will eventually fail.

It would take longer to read this thread than to do everything in Alexandria.

Man... You don't know shite, just because you visited a couple times and spent all weekend with the gf's family. A lot of people hating are people that grew up there or spent many years there. There is a reason for the hatred and it's not ill placed.

exactly....There are several things that could be done on the Riverfront with connects to downtown that could be great...

Money from a casino would stimulate alot of growth

if you want to know how far behind Alex is, just know that it does not have a stand alone Starbucks

which is fricking crazy

I so badly would love to put one in the old Checkers location

it would be a giant clusterfrick, but would make so much bank

The people that run Alexandria have the same mindset of the people that run small towns like Leesville and Deridder. They don't want any outsiders/business's coming in and taking their money away from them and their family. They make it impossible for someone that's not an insider to set up a successful business. So they have no progression or major growth.
