what a steaming load of horse shite

It always boggles my mind how the majority has been convinced that crowding growing children by the dozens into classrooms 7 hrs/day and holding them all to identical standards is normal.

What could be be more bizarre and unnatural than that? Every instinct of a developing human is to explore and discover. Traditional school just battles those instincts, and murders the right side of the brain.

Step back and think about it.

Let's just put in more roundabouts. That will solve it.

I guess the same could be said for private catholic school kids?

It's mostly because most homeschoolers are super quiet and are held out of school for religious reasons. Not all, but most.

Nope...those schools are loaded with drugs, sex, and rock and roll for the most part.

We are talking a whole different kind of religious here...

Oh, there is an absolute stereotype. Weird, shy, nerdy, anti-social, not athletic, the outcasts. And these kids exist. But they exist in schools as well. There are "normal" kids who homeschool. I went to prom twice (at a regular highschool). I got the advantage of not caring about what people thought of me and all of the social pressure, so by the time I went to college, I was independent and never looked back. Moved out at 18, bought my house at 23 on my own, etc.
I know we think of homeschooled kids as the guy who lives in mom's basement into his 40's, but not all of us were like that.

Catholic school kids are not religious. Generally, people don't send their kids to Catholic school for the religion itself. It's more the stigma, better academics (in some districts), etc.

The parents that i know personally, its the MAIN reason kids are sent there. The academics are a bonus.

I say at this age i say about 60% of kids in catholic high schools are actually catholic.

The number should be about 80% IMO for catholic elementary schools.

In the other case, the parents spoiled the kid rotten and didn't teach him a thing. Now he's a grown man who will never be able to live on his own even though health wise he's fine. His family says he's "slow" due to the treatments he went through. That's BS. He's slow because they raised him to be an idiot.
Yeah, I know plenty of home schooled kids. The stereotypes are there, but it is only for about 33% of them. My neighbors were homeschooled and they were about the most fricked up family ever. We also have friends who took their son out of school because he was "autistic" which I guess is another term for little a-hole.

Conversely, my daughter's boyfriend was homeschooled for years because he was white and went to a school in the ghetto where he was treated like shite. He went to Magnet High for four years though. He has some of those homeschool attributes.

One of the best families I've known were all homeschooled. They took little theater with my kids. Great and well adjusted kids.

there are horror stories and success stories with every thing.

OP. I hope your kid gets better. As long as you are determined to be a part of her education and you aren't a shut in, you'll be fine. If you are awful parents, home schooling won't fix your kids.

it seems like you are the old folksy religious type so I wouldn't be surprised if that is why you associated with parents like that.

But in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, kids are sent to Catholic schools for the academics, as well as for family reasons (Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa) all went to the same school

ETA: They also just happen to be Catholic

The parents you know might be, but Catholic school kids are NOT stereotypically religious. Catholic religion in general is a whole other world from protestants. Only the holiest of the holy even really display their religion in the Catholic community.

In Shreveport, Loyola has the stigma of taking all the kids who get kicked out of the other private schools.

Jesuit worshipers are just as bad as Catholic High worshipers.

Just one group is in NOLA, the others are in BR.

Lol

I'm not deeply religious but the subdivision i grew up in there were many kids that went to private catholic schools. We all grew up together playing sports and hanging out. I would think in BR and NO, most kids go to private schools because the public school system is so bad(its becoming that way in my city too). That is why we pulled our kids from public school. Like most parents we want the best education possible and public schools weren't cutting it anymore. We do go to mass on sundays but are we aren't what i would call a religious fanatics by any stretch of the imagination.

No it's not. My gf's little brother was home schooled from 7th grade on. He's a weird little fricker. He is 30 years old, has no friends, never had any friends, still lives with parents, has no car, no real job (he has passed his real estate broker test but I think he's only closed one deal ever), I don't think he's ever had a girlfriend, etc. He's just weird. He follows him mom around like a puppy. Now I know that's not entirely due to home schooling, but I think it was a majorly contributing factor.
