if he's that sick why worry about school...just let him enjoy his life

Awesome! What kind of computer did she need? Would a laptop be okay? Or is a desktop better?

It can definitely be done if done correctly. In order for it to be successful for the child it will take an enormous amount of time and energy from the parent(s).

There are a lot of people out there that claim to homeschool their kids but it is joke.

Because what if a new treatment comes out in the next few years and he can end up living a relatively normal life? I don't want to handicap him by not teaching him.

He's sick. And yes, that's homebound. We did that. It doesn't work out. He learned nothing, and they just passed him along.

Sorry you are going through difficult times. There are tons of resources out there. Just going through them and finding the good ones or right fit for your son takes time. Maybe the teachers/counselors at his old school could help suggest resources.

What sort of testing did they have? I've looked into it a bit, and they have a public school option that's free. But does that mean they have to go in for standardized testing at the school? Also, are the times set for classes? Or can they sign on whenever?

Once a year they have to take the standardized testing.. In the spring late April early may.

We had to go to opryland hotel here in Nashville to do that but depending on circumstances I think they would work with you.

She attended classes 2 or 3 times a day via live WebEx.

Some stuff graded online and some stuff went to her online teachers who help.

It's really the easiest way to home school.

Punkin, I had to pull my 8 yr old Monday for the same reason. He just wasn't able to function anymore. I just got back this morning from putting him into an acute treatment center to attempt to get his meds right but when I get him back Ill be homeschooling him as well. Hopefully we'll get him back into school eventually but you never know.

Thanks for this thread. The timing couldn't be better. Ill update it when I find info as well.

<------ @live.com if you have other questions. I really liked k12.. It's very well done and the fact they have actual teachers assigned to your kid makes it so much easier than taking this all on by yourself.

We are having our 2 kids homeschooled (11th graders) and its the BEST thing we have ever done for our children. There are 15 juniors and seniors in the class. No more distractions. No more discipline problems. The attend school from 8-1 and actually LIKE going to school! We were able to get one of the kids off of ADD meds which is another bonus. We have met and known a few homeschooled kids over the years and nothing is further from the truth of them lacking social skills. If anything, kids nowadays will have more problems with lack of social skills from having their collective noses glued to their phones and not being able to hold a conversation than from being homeschooled.

Have you considered becoming Amish and moving to Amish country where this is considered normal and your kid won't feel out of place?
