I played the sport from age 4-college, umpired and coached ages 5-13 and I can honestly say that what the crazy shite has become today is insane. Just be prepared to deal with a lot of bull shite from the parents.
quote:Most of the parents will be okay. It's that 1 or 2 on every team that skew our perception.
I guess I need to be preparing myself for this reality.
Every parent lives their own unfulfilled Major League Hall of Fame careers through their dopey 8 year old kid.
Further, they expect said dopey kid to be able to turn double plays just like Texiera, Jeter and Cano do for the Yankees.
and if they can't, they want you to work them harder.
if only some parents emphasized their kids algebra as much as baseball....
That being said, does anyone have recent experience on what to expect from the kids and parents in this age group?
Tell the parents not to approach you after a game if they're pissed. Wait 24 hours to call you. It's my number one rule and have been coaching kids for 20 years. Leave nothing to chance with your team and parent rules. If you let them know up front what you expect you will avoid a ton of shite later on
