That works fine depending on the dealers hand. If the dealer is showing a possible bust card, like a 6, then you can make out ugely.
No matter what the dealer is showing, if you have 20.. You stay. There is only one number that will beat you so why risk splitting the tens and possibly putting your self in position to get lower than 20 or bust?

Dealer has a 42.08% bust rate showing a 6. I would take my chances and win. It doesn't matter if you end up with 12. A 12 beats a bust. That is the only time I would split 2 10s. I play very conservative.

Yeah, in general people should ignore what others are doing and play your own game. The worst is when people bitch about others hitting on 16s vs 17s. Just play the game. It's a game of luck. You have no idea what card is going to come up when you hit.
Agree...it annoys me when people try to throw their 2 cents in. Its why I dont play much in casinos. I just want to be left the hell alone.
The last time I played some guy called me an idiot for hitting and he was not even playing.

I'll split 10s against a 5 or 6 if it's just the dealer and myself.

Used to play poker years ago with this d-bag. He decided he wanted to be cool and wear shades during the game. Dumbass wore mirrored lenses.
Cleaned him out good.

Was having a bad night. Limped in and Flopped a small flush. Pushed all in for 50 bucks to protect it and take down about a 25 dollar pot.
The board had three clubs, one a 5.
Last guy calls me with Q 5.
Turn is a Queen, river is a 5. I leave.

It's always baffled me that people get angry when other players make dumb blackjack bets. They seem to seriously believe that it wrecks the cards for all the other players.
I once saw a woman who was a novice split 6's against a dealer 10. Three people at the table immediately cashed in and walked off. I found her entertaining.

Meh the guy with 7-2 didn't even play that badly, gave it up before doing something really stupid.

Double down on 21. I didn't think it was possible. The dealer had to ask the pit boss.

It's "bad etiquette". It's "your money and you can play how you want to" but don't get upset when you play like an idiot and get called out on it.
If the dealers showing a six and you're at a full table, don't split tens. It's stupid. It's not a play to "win" it's a "ooo, fun I get to split cards" play.
Now, if you want to make plays that are "not by the card" like standing on 14 when the dealer shows a ten, ok that is a strategy that some
Folks employ (never take a chance at busting). That "playing your hand" rather than being an idiot

Oh, and the other night had this guy who 1- didn't speak the language well and 2- was intoxicated. He split tens, doubled on 13, SPLIT 5s and hit 12-15 vs a deal 6.
But what took the cake was when an older lady, who didn't know what she was doing had a double down hand. He put money next to hers and doubles it. So the lady wins, hands him back what he bet....
Which led to a 10 minute argument

That's not uncommon, especially if the dealers showing something like a 5 or 6. I see people do that all the time.
