Dealer has a 42.08% bust rate showing a 6. I would take my chances and win. It doesn't matter if you end up with 12. A 12 beats a bust. That is the only time I would split 2 10s. I play very conservative.
I don't know the math but the way I always understood it was you split everything except for 10s if the dealer is showing a 6.

It's "bad etiquette"
Only because people are dumb and think it negatively affects their probability of winning. Those are the people you pray to catch at the poker table later

If the dealers showing a six and you're at a full table, don't split tens. It's stupid. It's not a play to "win" it's a "ooo, fun I get to split cards" play.

If that's fun for someone, why does it bother you?

I'm fine with those who try to help someone if they know what they're doing. But if someone wants to do whatever and/or make dumb decisions, let them have it. Your win probability doesn't change over the long run so who cares.

People only remember the times that happens and it cause them to lose so they complain. They swear it never helps them out, but it does just as much as it hurt them.

I'll split 10s against a 5 or 6 if it's just the dealer and myself.

I find that I rather play blackjack by myself now. Lots of people don't like to, but you can play how you want and I've had better luck.

But being at a blackjack table with people who are having a good time is the most fun you can have on the gaming floor

Saw someone try to attack with a Serra Angel that had been tapped with an Icy Manipulator.

These dudes don't know how many MTG/Hold'em crossovers there are...wonder if they knew how nerd it was they'd still play...

I haven't played in 15 years, but I stopped in a game shop today by happenstance.

Meh the guy with 7-2 didn't even play that badly, gave it up before doing something really stupid.

I was wondering if someone would spot this.

From the perspective of the guy with the 72, unless the guy with quads actually has a K it's just a high-variance bluff.

But really he should have quit sooner, the bluff didn't have to cost him that much.

Insured their blackjack in high limit. Didn't want even money. Didn't want to gamble and see what dealer had. Lol!

Splitting tens is still a winning move against a dealer showing 6 more often than not, but unfortunately it is not as valuable as staying on your 20 when you figure the expected value.

If you employ a card counting strategy, splitting tens can actually be more beneficial, but I won't pretend to be well-versed in that discipline.

My first hand of the day at 1-2 no limit table....I have 300 in front of me...I'm dealt pocket sevens. I call two raises...flop comes 7 Q 10 two spades...I'm facing a bet and a pot size raise...I go all in...everyone folds but one guy who is pissed because he thinks I'm trying to bully the table spends 10 minutes trying to get info from me until a guy not in the hand calls time on him...he finally calls me for about $270. Flop comes blank/blank and this guy called me with A10...not suited...basically wasted $300 on second pair for no other reason than it was my first hand...

That's not uncommon, especially if the dealers showing something like a 5 or 6. I see people do that all the time.

It shouldn't matter what hand the dealer is showing.. Again, its that person's money and can play anyway they want, but if you have 20 and the dealer is showing a 6 you have more of a "sure thing" than if you split those 10s. You could split and get a 4 and 7.. If you hit on 14 you need a 6 to get back what you initially started out with, anything less hurts your chances. That would be great if the dealer has a 10 and gets over a 5 on the hit, but if you are playing to win then you stay with your twenty.

Meh, I can live with that. What irks me is people hitting 17+ with the dealer showing 15 or some shite.

Depending on what the dealer is showing and the card count, splitting tens can be a good strategy.

For all practical purposes it is a bad idea though.

They seem to seriously believe that it wrecks the cards for all the other players.

I mean, technically it changes the order for the rest of the deck.

I don't ever chastise someone for playing how they want with their own money, but there is a strategy to the game.

More often than not, someone hitting when they shouldn't burns the entire table more than it helps us.

The most common is third base hitting, getting a 10, then the dealer doesn't bust. I've sat out on hands when people like that come to the table. They usually lose pretty quickly, then everyone goes back to enjoying the game.
