interesting

my wife only wears hers when we go out or she dresses up

95% of the time its just the band on her finger

My wife wears cheap silver band from Amazon at work (nurse).

Nice wedding band at home.

Both wedding band and eng. ring when she goes out of the house. So I'd say she wears her engagement ring maybe 25% of the time.

Wow and that is for the bridal set...so wedding band included.

OP...if you are on a tight budget...look for white gold...MUCH cheaper than platinum settings.

Paige I'm not bitter about anything. I'm 25 years old. I'm extremely practical. I'm just here tossing an idea around that I think would save the VAST majority of guys in this country some money that could be put towards..say, a house instead.

And I'd be willing to spend a week's salary on a ring because I don't even make 2 grand in a week haha

My wife's engagement ring is worth far more now than when I purchased it. Why is it so much more important to you to have that cash just sitting around, instead of investing it in nice things. I still have the wealth that went into the ring, and that wealth will continue to grow until I leave it to my kids.

And remember, with a court order you can always get it back.

Not trolling, but how do you know its worth far more?

The market for used engagement rings isn't good, even if you sell as "estate" jewelry.

Is it an antique or something?

ETA:

You might be able to insure it for a lot, but actually selling it for far more than you paid might prove quite difficult.

And I paid a lot for my wife's engagement ring and wedding band FWIW. I dgaf if it was a stupid investment. She is in love with it and I'm not broke because of it.

I love round sapphires but they are as expensive as diamonds.

I'd like to know this as well. Because diamond rings are like vehicles, they depreciate as soon as you purchase them. Unless you pay A LOT for it then it's worth money because it's on the high end of the spectrum but it's still worth less. This is just my opinion but the market for USED diamond rings is crap. For similar reasons as my superficial argument. No woman wants a used ring

Now buying a nice ring to keep it in your family is another thing. I don't mind that thinking.
