Would such a thing be possible? I'm a guy so I obviously don't give a frick about bling on my finger, but having matching bands seems more practical to me. The idea of diamonds being worthless has been discussed here hundreds of times I'm sure, but it would be great to get the ball rolling on this idea. It's a shame we haven't gone this direction in society.

Luckily my SO thinks like me and we're both on the same page to spend money on things that are important for us. Though I'm not looking to propose soon so it doesn't matter just yet.

I don't feel like linking but I saw recently that the avg. cost for women's wedding rings is ~$6k (2015) and men's is ~$500 (2013).

Married women generally do wear wedding bands. I don't understand what you're talking about.

On a sidenote : You could always just give in to your true feelings and marry that man you love so much.

That would help save money also.

Especially later on when he wants to possibly buy something for his hobbies that is expensive and she refuses and gives him a guilt trip over how she was his saintly wife that never asked for an expensive ring.

Are you referring to the combo engagement ring/wedding band that most women wear? If so, I'd agree with you that I would rather wear a simple band that a bulky engagement ring combo, if I was a woman.

May as well just throw a quarter in the ring machine next time you're at Chuckie Cheese and then drop down and propose.

Take video of her reaction and post here.

So, you're banking on not getting her a diamond? Then I suggest you plan a real public proposal. You know, it will help get this trend moving. You want everyone you can to witness a proposal with no diamond ring, so they can see how well it works.

Make sure you get someone to record it on video, so you can post it on youtube.

That way EVERYONE will be able to witness your arse being rejected!

I'm talking ditch the big rock in the middle. Just a simple band. Could be a solid metal or have small rocks surrounding it. Whatever works for the chick.

And nurse, I have no problem spending money on me or my SO for things we truly want and will bring us happiness. What a waste of money a diamond ring is

I'm not, but I do enjoy having sex. The diamond was cheaper in the long run than going out a few times a week looking for poon.

Something you won't get to do again after you don't pony up for that ring.
