Never will I own a car that is designed to shut off without me turning off the ignition.

Rented a little zippy mobile in Paris last summer that shut off at every stop. It felt (and sounded) like a golf cart every time I would give it gas after a stop.

Wife's car has it. Have to turn it off every time you get in. It's s cool little knob that also puts the vehicle into Dynamic mode which effects the throttle response and the steering feel. I hope a future software update allows it to be permanent though.

have it on 2 cars. you can turn it off but it won't stay off. have to hit the button every time you get in the car. I don't like it. usually I forget and wind up hitting the button at the first stop sign.

During the holidays, I was traveling with my parents. I pulled up at the gas station and talked briefly to my parents in the car. Since the engine stopped, everything was quiet. So my dumbass got out of my car with it still in drive. The engine started up and the car started to pull forward while I had my back turned. My parents yelled, and I was able to jump in and hit the brakes before it drove into something. But it would have been bad if I had been alone and not noticed it immediately.

Rented a couple of cars in Europe with this, ended up feathering the accelerator to keep the engine rolling in the tighter spots.

You better buy 12 pack of a car that currently doesn't have it. It will soon be on all cars.

This will be a fad. You have no control once it shuts off, your power steering goes away.

That's just not true...

I guess in that regard I'm not an O-T O.G. My daily is a 1996 with almost 250k miles. It's a lifted 4x4 sporting a 400 horse smallblock chevy with headers. My other ride is a 1972 Chevelle with more power than the daily. Neither has a GPS system, a black box/data recorder, or any other fancy schmancy tech. The computer in my '96 is equivalent to an Atari compared to the electronics they're putting in new vehicles these days, and that's fine with me. I wouldn't want ONE new car, let alone twelve.

While start-stop technology may make some people crazy, the technology is here to stay.

That’s because manufacturers are under intense pressure to meet strict fuel economy standards by 2025 and they are using ever more creative ways to wring out every last bit of fuel efficiency from conventional gasoline and diesel engines.

They will figure out a better method than start/stop. This too shall pass. It's a great idea, and works for the fed numbers, but it's bad for driver experience.

The Achates power engine will fix all of this. 50% improvement in gas mileage. Due to the ever increasing mileage standards this engine is about the only choice, that or electric.

I have it in a 2014 lacrosse e-assist and have had no problems with it. I was told it would be standard in their vehicles this coming year. Once you drive it a while you don't notice it.

I had this feature in a rental recently and hated it. What happens if I am in Baton Rouge stand still traffic in late July? How well will the AC work while the vehicle is “off”?

I have one, but I rarely keep it engaged.

Obviously in that situation you turn it off.

Turning on the AC turns off the auto start stop

It will run when it needs to for heating or cooling. It's on a computer system.

more than just a switch. It's an electromagnet that moves the bendix into place.
