Sure isn't a reason to shoot him. It's a misdemeanor.

Trying to escape is a misdemeanor?

Depends what they charge you with. Could be misdemeanor evading arrest detention which is a mesdemeanor. I don't know their local laws. Running in a vehicle is normally a felony, on foot...not always.

Like fr said...why don't they use non lethal force in these situations...it makes no sense and happens way too much. That is why I try to avoid contact with police.

That is the truth

Any comment is turned to mean something that wasn't intended. That is why I normally like to just be sarcastic instead of debating with strangers

We are still cool man, nothing but respect... . I was just waiting for someone to mention racism, because I knew it was coming. It just legitimizes an OT thread...

My question is that if the police already had him detained and escaped why use leathal force? If he had been detained they must have searched him and would've known that he didn't have a weapon on him. So, using this logic which should be police protocol why shoot when u know the person doesn't have a weapon? There are other non lethal methods that could've been used and are protocol for these types of situations.

Because they are poorly trained. Anchorage police had to settle lawsuits and change policy after several unarmed people were killed last year.

The police officers were cleared in every case though. They acted in accordance with training

It's cool 805

The problem with these threads is if you don't expound on every possible post you make people will infer them to mean what they don't mean.

Right This isn't always a case of rogue cops, it's systematic.

Doesn't APPEAR that he was cuffed according to this "eyewitness" so there is an issue of proper detainment procedure being followed...

Roger don't you know a trooper? Is there a huge difference in salaries b/w them and city cops?

I know it's a tv show but troopers seem to show tremendous constraint in high stress confrontations. I am impressed bc they probably deal with more armed people than anywhere else.

Still if they were putting him in a squad car when he escaped wouldn't they have searched him first? If he's going into a car then proper protocol to search him for a weapon to make sure he isn't a danger to himself or the arresting officers?? This is what's confusing me...

Old friend of mine was a prison administrator and I asked if they could shoot to kill if someone was escaping. His answer was, it depends on the crime. Non violent misdemeanor, let them run. Violent felon, shoot to kill.
