The fact that gangbangers gun down innocent people daily doesn't justify the police using lethal force on an unarmed person.
I thought that was what the tazers were for.
My argument, removed from the situation, is that this sort of response for a shoplifter, if that is what it was, is extreme overkill.
The rioting is just as idiotic as the police responding to a non-violent crime blowing away some dumbass teenager.

I don't understand the notion that people who live in high crime areas aren't allowed to get mad when the cops kill a person. That's ridiculous. The police aren't gangbangers. Even though that standard has been lowered. This is what happens when you militarize people who can't get private sector jobs.
Quite frankly, I hope i read a story in the coming days of a td poster who gets shot 10 times for speeding on Carrollton or texting and driving. You know "breaking the law equals getting shot".

I am not saying the police were justified. I have no idea what the facts are and for them to use lethal force they better have a damn good reason...not sure they will be able to fabricate a good enough one in this instance.
I am torn a little bit bc I believe you shouldn't give the cops the opportunity to prove just how shitty they are. Really if he was shoplifting is that any reason to try to escape?
I am tired of the cops getting away with unjustified shootings, raids, killing dogs for no reason and wish they would start facing murder charges and other felonies that they rack up "doing their job". I don't get why DA's don't hold them to a higher standard.

I understand that when posters on this site see black people, they immediately think drugs, murder, and thugs.
But, in this case, Ferguson City in MO is not that violent or drug-infested. Just poor.

It's not unfathomable to think this cop overreacted and emptied his gun into a kid that was probably mouthing off and running away.

Have there been riots or just demonstrations and a militarized response?
I would have been ok if this lad had been shot by a shopkeeper protecting his property. The police shouldn't be the party doing it.

I don't know the facts. I do know that there have been many cases where police have broken laws and never been charged. Shooting innocent people by mistake and basically saying oops my bad. And then there are the cases where police have been shot serving no knock warrants and the homeowner shot them thinking they were intruders and have been charged.
Tell me I am wrong. Tell me cops don't cover up for other cops. I am not saying all cops but if you say it doesn't happen you are full of shite.
