I'll be sure to tell those building the $1m homes in Steele Place and Goodwood to GTFO.

Just let NBR break off and do their own thing. Problem solved. No more need for St. George and we get to keep Baton Rouge.

Preferably with a wall running down the middle of Florida Blvd. A big tall concrete wall with graffiti and shite. It would be the most German wall ever.

So my census research that I did on St George showed that overall population was 2/3 white 1/3 black. But school aged population was 50/50 mixed because black people have more kids.

I was mixed on St George. But honestly, I think I'm ready to move away from this shithole all together, St George or not. This parish is pretty much fricked no matter how you split it.

What should happen is allow st George to form their own school district. Remove the ebr schools property tax. Then say that 1/5 of any property tax for st George schools must go to EBR schools for 10-15 years as a weening period.

The folks that pushed keeping the status quo wrapped themselves around the Better Together flag.

Keep in mind that the Better Together crowd orchestrated the special tax district to boost property taxes to fund our great transportation system CATs. They are also the same folks who are pushing for a hospital district so a public hospital with ER can be built in NBR.

And honestly I have no problem with that, but when SBR and SEBR want to do their own taxing district for a school, they don't need to oppose us.

The truth is sometimes we aren't better together, the truth is sometimes its best to form a smaller district, its best to break off from the whole. Sometimes its not.

But what's wrong with letting the voters decide?

My side lost the fight last year. We had the sigs until the other side was able to convince enough of the signees to withdraw their signature. That was all per the law, and there was nothing wrong with that.

But I won't forget the City Hall crowd led by Kip, BRAF, and Delgado who fought us at every turn. They will never get my support. I'll fight them at the ballot box as best I can.

That's the American way.

If you want the people in any area that separates from the EBRPS system to still pay taxes to the EBRPS System then that district should not have to buy their schools like the City of Central had to.

The biggest supporters on my street were African American people with kids that are old enough to go to public school. One African American neighbor said they wanted to have a nice school free of the mandatory daycare kids coming from NBR. They have their kids in private school at this time. I guess this means the African American people that were for St George are racist also.

There are still great parts of North Baton Rouge. Do you think that if St. George had formed and this shooting would have happened, St George residents would have been immune to what is going on? I doubt it very much.

IDGAF, I'm leaving this parish in 2 weeks. Baton Rouge is about to collapse when I take my baller money out of here.

What? I think the way the mayor, the DA and all of the EBR/BR law officers handled the aftermath is a model for how to do it the correct way. WTF are you talking about?

So, St George would secede from Louisiana, too, and no longer be subject to "the overall leadership at the State Capitol"?

The shooting was in BR proper, and as best I can tell so were the protests.

Now I am not so naïve as to think these racial problems do not affect us all because they do.

But its a sad commentary that when things like this happen a sizeable part of our leadership immediately assumes our cops are out of control, and that we need to reign them in.

Instead our leaders need to calm fears, tell the people that the authorities will investigate and justice will prevail.

Justice moves slow, but it moves. Too many in leadership play to the mob, and as a result we get what we witnessed last week.

They're in for a rude awakening if they think they're avoiding the "daycare" types.

I agree as a former officer in Califronia who has gone through riots in the 1990's the EBRPSO, BRPD, and other agencies did a great job of keeping the protest under control.
They seen the mistakes other depts did and kept those mistakes down while doing a textbook job on how to control something that could have got out of control.

As far as the area known as St George they do not want to leave Louisiana LSURussian. These people want their own city due to the lack of city parish services and the horrible school system. You have roads in the area I moved in where the city parish replaced the sewer pipe under the road and just covered the pipe up with dirt. It has been two years and the spot is still dirt instead of asphalt. You have pot holes out of control to the point one lady planted flowers in one pot hole to make a point of how bad it is.

I came to this conclusion about when the City grabbed all of the retail on bluebonnet. I knew then it was pretty much futile, they were playing hardball.

But yeah. There is money in LSU and that will always keep the city relevant, but ignoring infrastructure almost entirely and the needs of the middle class have pretty much predetermined the fate of Baton Rouge.

I lived in the city for almost 10 years and I was forced to choose between buying an overpriced house in Ascension, a moderately priced house in suburbia hell in LP, or just cutting bait entirely. Went with C and it's the best decision I've ever made.
