I came to this conclusion about when the City grabbed all of the retail on bluebonnet. I knew then it was pretty much futile, they were playing hardball.
That's when I decided to leave BR. I did. And I am happy I did.
BR is a crap hole.

You get the right leaders for this, and yes change the name, and it could happen.

Well. Let's put it this way. Your city needs a federal intervention to repair the neglected sewage system. LINK
It still suffers from worse traffic than cities 10x the size.
It has schools that should be condemned.
Need more?

I was EXTREMELY impressed with the local black leadership kicking those outa state BLM protesters to the curb in BR.
And yet our governor just went to the white house and pandered with the biggest instigators....

Why does everyone think BR is either north BR ghetto or Perkins/Siegen cookie cutter, white suburbia?
Posted on 7/14/16 at 9:38 am to Golfer
With shitty apartments being inhabited by trash and being built next to decent neighborhoods all over BR, it'd be kinda hard to define good areas of BR these days.

That was Obama yanking Admiral Ackbar's leash.
Had to bring the West Pointer back into line.

BR Together can't let that happen. Because they sure as shite know that our taxes is what is keeping BR afloat.
The crazy part is that they are openly admitting that now. I heard one the other day on the news (during the protests) saying how if the taxpayers of South Baton Rouge didn't prop up the north part of the city it would fail. So let me get this straight, it is the JOB of one part of the city to support the other? Ummm... that ain't how it is supposed to work folks.

When/where was this openly admitted? Link?

I think what needs to happen is for the city/parish merger to be undone, the city limits of Baton Rouge be reset to better reflect the desires of the population, and to allow new cities to be incorporated out of the unincorporated areas via the ballot box if the residents so choose. These efforts should help to strengthen the movement towards true neighborhood schools.

quote:Such as? The area that would be St George would still receive "city parish services."
These people want their own city due to the lack of city parish services
quote:Setting up a new city would not create a new school system.
and the horrible school system
A new school district would require an approval vote of not only the entire state but also all of East Baton Rouge Parish, not just the residents within St George.

I don't understand why it matters. This would have still happened and what, some of you could try and deny that you live in Baton Rouge? So what. It still happened and everything would be playing out exactly the same. I am sorry you don't get to feel better and say you live somewhere else but you are free to move. I know I want to.

Trying to run from the Bruhs will have y'all running in circles. Y'all live in Louisiana and think y'all can get away from Bruhs?
It's like living in Texas and trying to escape the Hispanics.
Y'all are too smart to be so damn dumb.

quote:I don't think the "hospital district" that's been proposed includes any area in north Baton Rouge. The proposed district is exclusively around the OLOL/Essen Lane/Bluebonnet/BR General/Ochsner area as far as I can determine.
They are also the same folks who are pushing for a hospital district so a public hospital with ER can be built in NBR.
Do you have a link to enlighten me on that?
For the record, I am opposed to the hospital district. It's just an excuse to create a job and employ a political appointee.

Nay. You are incorrect. There is one last great white hope. Livingston Parish, the Final Bastion of Culture, where liberty flows like wine and freedom rings like a bell tower. How can I say this? Well I am glad you asked.
Looking at Livingston Parish objectively, it trumps all other parishes in terms of culture, livability and the American way.
The people there stand tall and are proud of who they are despite Louisiana seemingly collapsing around them on every side. In a land turning blue, they are a shining red light.
Nothing is out of reach from this parish. The city of Baton Rouge, though derelict and brimming with slipshod hooligans remiss of common decency, is but a stone's throw away. Fun can be had at the fabulous and slightly precarious Perkin's Rowe. Movies can be watched. Books read. Pizza eaten. Malls are there for the mere enjoyment of their existence.
New Orleans? No problem, just hope in the ole' Chevy and skit-skat on down there for a nice family venture. Want your car stolen for kicks? Hammond is right around the corner. Want to feel important and get a taste of what it means to be a yuppy…live the high life, Prairieville is as the crow flies.
Livingston Parish is safe. They take care of their own. They watch each other’s backs. They share in neighborly apple pie. Exchange cheese cake on Sundays. In comparison, the lands surrounding this great parish are simply filled with a hazardous cesspool of evil doers reveling in a cacophonous boom of immorality.
They are patriots. They love this county, not as it is, but as it SHOULD BE. Free.
And finally, without Livingston Parish, Louisiana school scores would drop across the board. We should all the thankful for that. In summation, Livingston Parish is the greatest parish in Louisiana.
What’s not to like?
TL;DR – Livingston Parish >>> All of the Parishes

Some services would shift from city parish to city of ST George. Ditches being cleaned which is a huge issue in unicorporated EBRP would still be an issue on parish & state roads. Most neighborhoods this would fall under city services which at this time we have people that called 311 that has been waiting over 2 yrs to get their ditches cleaned.
Zoing would be controlled by the city and not the metro council which is out of touch with the traffic & flooding issues in this area.
Solid waste curb side pickup and storm debris pickup. After that city parish took along time to get the storm debris after the windburst in May picked up along with the horriable curb aide can service we get from Richard's Disposal having the chance to choose a better service provider would be welcomed.
Typically the state is a republican state and people all over this state are fed up with throwing money at schools that are trash. The small demographic fighting it in EBRP will it compare to the rest of the state if they get the story out to voters in areas such as Acdiana, North Louisiana, and central Louisiana that hate the BR establishment.
