Sounded like cupping to me but obviously I haven't seen them. Tires just don't get these conditions on their own. That's my point. There is an underlying cause IMO.

Sure, and that's kinda the point of the thread. Tires shouldn't be done after 20k miles. He rotated them at reasonable intervals, his suspension is in good shape, and they aren't cupped (usually caused by extended under inflation). Unless there's something OP is leaving out then it sure sounds like a bad batch made it through QC, and he even paid extra for some wear warranty. I would either get pro-rated replacements or take it to the BBB.

I just went through the thread again. He's said nothing about his suspension. He's only said that the tires had "lumps" (which could be cupping as they certainly feel like lumps) and that the tires only have 21k miles on them. He's said nothing about proper balancing (which can cause cupping). He did say that they've been rotated three times.

They also offered a steep discount on new tires which is an olive branch to try to appease him.

Oh, and road hazard insurance? It's just what it implies. It's for hazards encountered on the road like sidewall damage and punctures that are in an area of the tire that can't be patched. Then it's a prorated replacement. It has absolutely nothing to do with a condition like this.

OP gives up info like the KGB.

How many miles on the car? Still would like to know if it's a hot/cold issue. With a cold tire, a tread separating issue is more apt to show up. Assuming it's the front tires, this could indicate bad struts. I'm gonna rule out inflation since that was checked when he rotated them.

Everyone talking about rotation is FOS, not as much as Walt, but close.

I't very well could be defective tires, that happens more than people think.

You're right. It is possible that it's from a bad batch of tires but the information given by the OP is so incomplete.

Almost 20 years in the biz and I have never walked up to tire and said damn see how that is worn, that is a bad shock.

Front wheel drive cars wear out the back tires. Rotating tires now a days is needed but most places dont even do it right.

When you got that alignment I would bet a large sum of money that it was not done right. 90% of fwd cars dont have the range of adjustments built into the car to align it correctly in the rear. 90% of fwd only have a toe adjustment on the front. To adjust camber the strut has to be loosed and moved and only so much adjustment is there.

Also most alignment guys have no clue as to what they are doing. The guy that trained me could look at the old tires in a pile and tell you which corner it come off of. Then set the alignment to drive straight and maximize the tire life. The machine could have every setting in the red but the tires would last just like they were supposed to.

Oh btw if it does not say all terrain behind bfg, you dont want it.

eta: if you failed to keep tires properly rotated (every 5-6k miles) then you're effed.

How would anyone know if they were rotated?

One Saturday I did a bunch of vehicle maintenance errands for a road trip I was taking the next week. Went and bought new tires, went to an alignment shop, then went to go get oil and other fluids changed. The guy at the oil change told me I definitely needed an alignment because he could tell my tires were definitely cupping. I asked him if he was sure and he said yeah let me show you. I wish I had a picture of my face because I gave him the mother of all dumb looks. I told him the tires had at most 8 miles on them and that I had just driven from the alignment shop. frickin amateurs.

Why would you take your car so many places to get it worked on?

Because good alignment shops don't dick with oil changes.

Are you an independent????? That's the difference. Those guys at a chain type shop could care less. They get paid anyway . But a guy on his own will do the work right cause you help him keep his lights on and shop open. Always go to an independent.

If you live in So Louisiana I could put you on a good place to get tires, you wouldn't have this problem.

Total miles on car: 61k. It's mostly a over 50mph issue. Hot or cold doesn't appear to have much effect either way. It's also the back 2 tires having the most issue.

They said alignment appeared fine, but I never saw them put it up on the rack either. Inflation should be ok. It has tire pressure monitoring system as well.
