Because you don't work hard enough, or have the drive to earn more money?

A house is a privilege, not a right. Earn it.

But the millennial that invented the selfie stick probably lives lavishly in one of the big three cities on the west coast...

It's because they spend their income on frivolous things such as skinny jeans, goofy hats, black rim glasses, etc, etc instead of saving for a down payment on a home.

this isn't anybody's "fault." some cities have a higher home value than others. if you cant afford to live in a particular city, move to another city. also, this is based on the average home mortgage. perhaps you just don't make enough to get the average house. If that's the case, then it's up to you to make more money.

This thread will be full of answers broadly sterotyping millenials as if they all are lazy and vapid.

I wouldn't say we're getting screwed. This chart is just pointing out the obvious. The age group that makes the least can't afford to buy homes in the most expensive areas of the country.

Least shocking news ever.

To be fair, they are talking about housing prices in major metro areas on the coasts(apart from Denver), where the downtown areas have basically become lily white enclaves for the 1%. This is exactly what liberals want, for them to live in the lucrative areas with prices so high that it prices out all the minorities and common folk, while at the same time getting behind politicians who promote diversity and taxing the rich to help the 99%. Also known as ivory tower liberalism or limo liberalism, "do as I say not as I do".

Home ownership is more affordable in middle america. I am about to move to city #7 on that chart(Seattle) and no way in hell will I ever be able to afford a home there unless I get a promotion one day that gives me a huge bump in pay. But I could easily afford a typical mortgage payment on my salary I will receive in Seattle in DFW or Iowa where I used to live.

Because if you weren't so busy being outraged on Tumblr all the time, you'd be working and could afford a house note.
