You realize that most doctors with 20 years of medical experience can't afford the average home in San Jose, right?

This has nothing to do with working harder.

It does, however, have everything to do with the baby boomer's destruction of the housing market.

Millennials are not the "Me" generation, that was the 70s kids. "Oh I don't have the money for it up front? Thank god I can just finance that."

Poor millennials. There are a whole 13 places in the US where they can't afford to buy a house.

There are literally hundreds of other places in the US where they can.

As a "pussy" millenial, I'm willing to bet I work harder than many on here bashing my generation. I work my arse off from the time I sit down at my desk to the time I'm finally able to walk out the door. Each day I'm under a tight deadline to produce a ton of information. And I still make a below average wage. Do I complain? No. Because it's better than working part-time at a shite retail store with no health insurance and begging my manager for more than 20 hours.

buy homes

No, they can't afford to by the average, or median, home. they may be at the point in there lives where they need to buy a starter home but they feel as if this isn't good enough for them. So, they can afford a home, just not the one they want.

And according to the age range in the chart, I'm a millennial. I also started out with a started home, 2 bed 1 bath. now I'm 4 bed and 3 bath. millennials just need to work more and lower their expectations.

The housing market used to base prices on a one-income home as women rarely worked in that time. Now with most homes being dual income, housing prices have raised to reflect that.

It also correlates with why marriages have become mroe unstable - more marriages are relying on dual incomes to do everything and if one income stream gets disrupted it causes problems.

It's because they spend their income on student loan debt and the higher cost of living instead of saving for a down payment on a home.

then you have shitty decision making skills. You are the one who accepted the position and salary. Its not the housing markets fault you can't afford a home. Nor is it your employers. Go get a higher paying job. Maybe one not in a comfortable office. But one that pays more money. And don't bitch about your student loans. You did that too. Suck it up Buttercup! It only gets harder from here.

To be fair I own an above average home in DC. I'm mid 20s.

Doesn't make what I said any less valid.

Can't help you. I don't know anyone who categorically hates an entire generation of mankind.

I agree with all your points, but its still easier said than done

I just accepted a higher paying job for more money. I am moving from Iowa to Seattle, so a portion my increase in salary will be swallowed up by the increase in cost of living. The main reason I took the job though was because I will be in a supervisory/leadership role, which is best for the long run. In the short term it would have been better for me to hold out for the same salary increase in a lower cost of living area, but I think having the supervisory role will pay off in the long run.

also, this is based on the average home mortgage. perhaps you just don't make enough to get the average house. If that's the case, then it's up to you to make more money.

Or buy a starter home like I did when I was 20 and upgrade from there. You don't have to have the same level of home as people well into their careers.
THAT is the millenials problem. They want everything handed to them as soon as they get out of school.
