this house is in Bywater, which is in the upper 9th ward.
It's in the Marigny technically. But barely. The block isn't cute at all. It's wedged in that industrial area before you get to NOCA by the river. It would be a good place to charge hipster tourists a fortune to stay in. But I wouldn't want to live there for substantially less money.

But I still think it will sell at close to asking
I don't think so. It's been on the market for almost two months. There are a lot better houses in better areas that are selling for similar prices.

It looks pretty big for 500k but I live in east bay and the prices here are ridiculous

I'd love to move back to NOLA at some point - my career is going really well. The problem is that even though I've more than doubled my salary I still couldn't afford to move back to the Warehouse District condo where I was living in 2004 pre-Katrina.
It's both good and bad I suppose - I'm happy that the city is doing well and those that stayed are being rewarded, but it sucks that I can't find a spot to land there that I'd be happy with.

Yeah, I said that before I looked at it on street view. I'm with you. Unless they're renting it for enough to sit on it.
Edit:
This I get even less though. There's just no way.

I don't find traffic in New Orleans that bad... I get the roads, crime, politics etc but traffic wouldn't be my complaint.
This. New Orleans traffic isn't bad. Jefferson Parish traffic is a nightmare, though. So, if you DON'T want traffic, live in the city, not the suburbs.

I like that place
*I know nothing of that neighborhood, just going by the house itself

This would make sense if it were in uptown, by Tulane, or whatever but this house is in by water right next to the 9th ward.
Right, when I saw the pics my first thought was, oh this must back up to Audubon Park. Turns out it backs up to the Industrial Canal. No thanks.

Also, if you're taking pictures to try to sell your house, would it kill to take five minutes clean up the crap from your kitchen? You don't even have to really clean it up, just move it a few feet out of the camera angle.

that house was staged for a very specific type person
trust me

Oh definitely. The bicycle, the acoustic guitar, the chalkboard. Set up for some damn Brooklyn yuppie who thinks $500K for that house is "such a steal!" Just thinking about it makes my blood boil

Definitely, the bywater area is being gentrified by hipsters. That's who this house was directed to.
People are complaining about housing prices, but don't realize that this is cleaning New Orleans of trash by pricing them out.

Sometimes my truck will stay parked for 2-3 days without moving it. Try that anyone else in Louisiana and you've gone stir crazy. People greatly underestimate the benefit of having everything you need within 1/2 mile of where you live.
i think a lot of people are just so used to being 100% car dependent that its strange to them to think about walking to do all that stuff. i love being able to

It's not the house per say, though I'm not a fan of the remodeling job. It's the price of the house in that location. And it still doesn't have off street parking. Just a few years ago they were practically giving houses away on that end of the Bywater. They were well under 100k.

from just Cleaview to Power, that's it.

Traffic complaint that I mostly have in the city at the moment is the fricking construction on Napoleon Jefferson and Claiborne.

Couldn't agree more although the construction uptown sucks

2 1/2 years and counting. One thing I cherish about NO is that some cities give rich people better treatment, and would've expedited this kind of project since it's in such an expensive area. Not here. Rich, poor, middle class, the city doesn't give a frick about you all in equal measure.

While we're talking about gentrification and absurd housing prices, do y'all think anything will ever happen with central city? I've got some friends who are moving over there now. There is no way in hell. There are some beautiful enormous old houses over there that could be beautiful. But I'd rather not get shot to death.

There are entire blocks off of Lasalle and OC Haley that are undergoing renovation. Central City will be totally different in ten years.
