But Edison's version allowed for commercial profit(if I remember the story correctly)...any chance that happens in the future? In an airport right now looking at everyone plugged in.

Edison was DC and Tesla was AC.

Two totally different types of electricity.

Tesla's inventions were seized shortly after death for national security purposes. The man was clearly ahead of his time. God only knows what else he came up with that was never released.

Also he invented AC current, which is much more prevalent than DC, so that was his lasting gift.

Supposedly he actually did. It was broadcast from a tower like a radio signal.

Didn't it come down to currents? Edison used AC, which was able to be pushed over longer distances safer than the DC Tesla proposed.

Edit: or opposite with the currents they developed...

That's a little off and condensed.

Edison wanted DC power, Tesla wanted AC. Edison proved the dangers of AC by using it to kill an elephant.

His DC systems won out...Until a few years later he and his company realized AC was the better option and they switched to that anyway. Taking control of many of Tesla's patents and ideas, as Tesla worked for Edison when many of the products were tested.

After this and becoming a recluse, Tesla began working on an idea to transmit wireless electricity.
The plans never leaked out. Tesla was considered insane and discredited.

We may never know if he was on to something or not.

Edison made Tesla like dig ditches when he worked for him.

"This is awful. I am inventing electricity and you look like an a-hole. You look like a fricking idiot." Tesla to Edison

Edison was a sick MFer. I don't know why he's regarded as a hero.

A lot of back stories on inventors.

Alexander Grahm Bell tried to discredit the Wright Brothers, and backed another aviator. (who died)

The Wright brothers themselves screwed over aviation by claiming to own the patent on every airplane. It's why Germany and Europe was so far ahead of the US in 1915 in aviation. We still had Wright flyers and they had Biplanes.

History is condensed, and those who brought great things, it's seen as better not to sully their contributions with what they did after.

So by what free means would this electricity have been generated?

Tesla's wireless energy looks like an awesome way to get cancer.

Napoleon, you have your facts screwed up...

Edison invented DC, which can only be transmitted over a short distance. It would have required power stations every mile or so.

Tesla invented AC, which we use today, which can be transmitted over much longer distances.

Edison used the Elephant experiment to discredit Tesla and try to demonstrate that AC was too dangerous. It failed however, as Tesla's AC won out because of its supeioroirty over Edison DC plan.
