The necessary conclusion of what you are saying is that people who have bad things happen to them deserve it. There is no other logical conclusion. People say "count your blessings" for the opposite reason that you are saying, or at least they should. It's because you actually have very little to do with how good you have it. It isn't some reward or punishment from up high.

I don't want to get too far into this, but I'll just say Christianity in a way requires suffering. If you look at the life of Jesus, His actions and his words were asking things of people that were not easy. When you raise the standards people live by, there will be backlash. Also, doing the righteous thing or the holy thing is usually not the most satisfying thing.
There's also the opposite end of prosperity gospel, poverty gospel. People who feel you can only be close to God if you're suffering and/or poor, which is also a false doctrine. Solomon talked about it in Ecclesiastes. He knew great wealth, he knew poverty, good health, sickness, and he called it all vanity when compared to striving after God. So you can have wealth or you can be poor, but if you're not seeking God, it's all pointless.

I'm not a Joel Osteen guy, but I'm not going to sit and judge. Seems like once they were able to get organized they opened their doors and are going above and beyond sheltering and distributing goods. Either way, they're doing a whole lot more than I am.

It would be foolhardy to open the doors to many thousands with electricity, food, water, toiletries. There is planning and time needed for that. Look no further than the "Morial" convention center in New Orleans.

So, let's say I've studied for an exam all week long and I pray daily to God that I pass/do well. If I end up passing, I'm going to thank God for watching over me and MY very own studying for helping me.
If a student that literally doesn't open their book and doesn't study at all, but prays to God that they will pass and end up failing. You wouldn't say they deserve to fail since God can only do so much and that they didn't help themselves (not studying)
Doesn't God reward good deeds and preparation by providing us with open doors and opportunities to succeed, if we work hard at it and pray?

But when you get a church that focuses on "you" and not God, it's just headed in the wrong direction.
That's the truth.
Look at the lives of the Apostles and see how that fits with Osteen ' s prosperity message.

Either way, the dude is a complete douchebag.

This story does not hold water (sorry for the bad pun)
For a man and a ministry that thrives and relies on public perception, this level of a boondoggle still leave many questions to be answered. Osteen and Co. are typically too saavy for this type of backlash.

All he has to do is walk though the halls slowly. The wind from his constant blinking will dry the water.

It's the way of the world today, sit behind your computer and spew hate! Facts don't matter anymore.

I have no respect for osteen or jimmy swaggart. I think money is their motive. Nobody needs a $10,000,000 dollar estate. frick them !

Lol. That's pretty damn funny.
A recommendation from a Mardi Gras pro. Play drums or brass really well, carry good weed, and be a happy drunk. You'll have tons of couches to crash on.

my point is that the media/left don't distinguish osteen from baptists or methodists. they treat them all with the same hate-driven, anti-christian agenda.
You're are literally doing the same thing you're bitching about. I know a lot of very religious liberals. I'm not religious, but I absolutely see the difference between prosperity churches, and other of Protestants.
I'll refer you to Matthew 19:24
quote:
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
While I don't see this as 100% factual. It brings up an interesting perspective. A rich man should be truly charitable, and not greedy. By preaching that God will bestow wealth to believers, it seems like it's going against the Bible, and Jesus' message.

What if you fail the test after studying and the other guy passes. Is it just God's will all over again?
My family members used to have gatherings every week to watch Joel Osteen on tv. I went once, and while he had a decent message, I couldn't over the fact that if it wasn't profitable he wouldn't be doing it. It's not about the message or God. It's about money which is more powerful than any gods.
