I will tell you to keep an eye out for any pimple looking thins to a rise on your body and watch it because I caught staph from the hospital after mine. Thought it was a pimple and obviously tried to pop it. Nope. Just another thing to keep in the back of your mind. I've heard of someone getting staph in their nose after this surgery and it ate their septum away basically because they didn't know it was staph. Just thought it was pain from the surgery

My dad had it done 20 years ago and hasn't had sinus congestion ever since. Said that once you get past the recovery it's awesome.

I've been told by some it didn't work. I couldn't not do it though. Yea like I said I'm a suit behind a computer guy (FA) so I have a feeling I'll be ruining a couple shirts here and there from bloody nose. O well

My dad's had it twice. I've broken my nose 5 or 6 times in my life, so my day is coming due soon.

It surprises me hearing about the taking out the packing routine. There are now dissolvable packs that keep your middle tubinate from lateralizing to your maxilllary sinus. Most are gone within 7-10 days a long as you use a saline rinse post op.

That being said, I can't imagine how bad a septoplasty hurts.

I just had my septum fixed along with my sinus cavity repaired in November. Was 5 weeks before I could do anything.

Had it done in January. They don't use gauze anymore, they use a plastic splint in your nose which is much better

After the surgery they will take the splint out within a week. It will feel lots of pressure and its tough to sleep but when you get it out its worth it

Had both cavities blocked and deviated septum. Best decision I ever did, it gradually gets better and within two weeks you're back to almost normal. After 5 days and the splint was out I was drinking and feeling fine

Highly recommend

When you sneeze in the shower the blood stain on the wall will look like somebody shot you in the back of the head

For me it's not that it hurts so much but it's such a crazy feeling. I've had the surgery twice and pulled the packing out myself the second time. Almost fainted both times.

how long did you cough up blood for and how long/bad were the nose bleeds?

Coughed up blood for about a day. The hardest part was not blowing my nose.

Oh and apparently I told the nurse I wanted to bone her.

This is funny. I had a similar experience when I had my sinus surgery when I was 19. After all of the anesthesia, I must have used the following terms "my toolshed keeps my tool from getting rusty" and "it's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean." The nurses thought this was hilarious and proceeded to tell MY MOM these comments. Yeah- a little awkward.

Dr Barrett Aldridge

They also said I was telling them my seafood gumbo recipe

Before my dad left the room he asked if I had any secrets. I said no. He winked and said "we'll see"
