MIPS are given out like candy at LSU football games now and rightout side LSU bars, I have never seen so many undercover cops trying to bust a 20 year old college kid having a damn beer. Personally unless you are doing something stupid or out of control I don't get it. Its really a money making thing, they don't give a shite.
If this is your first offense you can do pre trial usually, most the time there is like a 500$ fee with a class and community service involved. No you don't need a lawyer. it would be stupid to drag this on, it'll cost way more than what its worth. Don't get down it can be taken care of.
After you complete pre trial diversion you can get it expunged later on. Just be careful until youre 21

My son got one at a tailgate. Got a lawyer. Total cost was $360 and he had to take a few classes at no cost.
The offer the DA gave was $500 and would also have to go to 7 classes at a cost of $50 each.
Talking to a lawyer shouldn't cost you anything. Ask around and I guarantee that you will find someone who knows a lawyer that can help for less than what the DA is offering.

just pay the small fine. having an MIP on your record won't ruin your life.

Just pay the fine
I got one when I was 18. Didn't keep me from graduating, getting into law school, or becoming a prosecutor
It's basically a speeding ticket. The only difference is your mom might think you're an alcoholic instead of a speed demon because moms worry too much.

This sounds like a lot for an MIP, was this in Baton Rouge? The general I understand is fines between 200-800$ (it usually depends on the case) but part of those fees are those for alcohol test which half don't even do anyways (a lot just sniff the cup) and the other is for a class (usually always just one). I have never heard of that many classes (unless your schedule requires you to break them up). Usually they make you take a substance abuse class which covers alcohol and drugs combined, its like 3 or 4 hours. Anything more than that there has to be something more, I haven't heard of anything that severe for just a regular MIP case.
My uncle at the time was a cop so I practically got off back when I got mine but I still had to do the community service and class but it wasn't too big of a deal

If you get an attorney in BR, I recommend Aidan Reynolds.

Defining 18 as a 'minor' is ridiculous bullshite.

I agree, you are an adult at that age. You can go to war and die but you can't have a drink. Its dumb
I think some places in Europe allow you to drink if you are 18 but are restricted to alcohol content percentages so usually beer is always fine

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Meanwhile crack is sold/smoked out in the open all over NBR along with the robbery, rape, and murder that goes along with all that. But I'm sure glad to know SWB and EBRPD is being diligent writing tickets to 20 year old frat baws drinking a beer.
Yep my thoughts exactly.. I told a Hammond police officer pretty much the same thing when he wrote me a window tint ticket pulling out the east gates of campus at Southeastern.. He was standing in the road checking widow tent of college kids.. That's some bush league shite!

Don't know shite about MIP anymore, just know that when i caught one I said frick it and it never bumped my record. It was ATC that issued it and I ignored it.
