So I got an MIP

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I made the mistake of walking around with an open container while underage on my way to the bar. Undercover car pulled over and hand me the overpriced ticket. Not really educated with this process at all. My buddy's stepdad is a DA and says it'll cost me a $500 fee for him to see what he can work out. Should I just go to my court date and handle this myself or go with that route?

They only give tickets for MIPs now? I had friends who got arrested. Just be thankful you didn't have that happen. Sack up and go to your court date and pay the fine.

Just pay it. Aren't they like $200? Why would you pay anyone more money to "see" if they can work it out? I got news for you: he's going to "see" that he can't work it out and you're gonna be screwed.

I can't see how your buddy's stepdad can represent you in a criminal case if he's a DA. What he can do is recommend a good criminal defense attorney to handle the case. And yes $500 is probably what it will cost you.

Go to the court date, there will probably be others in your exact predicament. They will make you sit there all day, handle the group of you all the same and you will have to pay a fine and do community service. Been there, done that!
