Not really. After a statistically non-significant increase last year, the murder rate is continuing it's downward trend as it has for the past five years.

NOPD is still giving tickets for minor things including traffic violations and expired brake tags, so it is illogical to believe them when hey say they just don't have the manpower. What is logical is that they are extorting the populace into giving them more protection money.

I'd wish on nola east to burn if I wasn't sure that scum wouldn't move closer to me.. That situation is extremely saddening and I couldn't think of putting myself in the families position. But as the Dallas police chief said, if anyone actually wanted to make a difference they would join the force, it's always looking to hire

Outside of a DWI checkpoint I never see this except at the drag racing in the East.

You ever drive around in NOE? I made that mistake recently. Missed an exit and followed google maps into the abyss. The city does not even cut the grass on public right of ways. With that being said, the residents are to blame for much of their problems. But let's not pretend the city does not neglect it, at least more so than other areas. To be clear, I am not blaming the city or government for crime, drugs, etc. in NOE

Sometimes I drive through there and it's eerily quiet. Like a damn horror movie.

Yes I have driven around there and yes it is shitty.

I won't pretend that, but let's not pretend that the city isn't run off of tax dollars either.. When I drove around there, more people were lounging than working. As I said earlier, if you want to make a difference you need to work for it. I live in a nicer nola community and we still have to pay extra for police and the roads will never be fixed because the people in areas like the east need constant babysitting

NOLADISHU

On a serious note I heard at the Courthouse yesterday that the NOPD lost 30 officers this week alone due to the chaos taking place in Baton Rouge.

Nola East is basically another city. Crime seems to have fallen in the real New Orleans.

No shite?

A female friend of mine was sexually assaulted walking home Uptown about a year back. She would have been raped had a neighbor not heard her screaming. The neighbors called the police and they showed up about an hour and a half later. The police officer said that it didn't sound like a big deal. The woman called the police days later for updates on the matter and they had no record of it happening.

Wonder how crime "seems" to be down.

I love NOLA, but between the crime, high taxes, and the high cost of buying a home (which seems to have steadied over the last ~6 months), I'm no longer interested in living there. Will go back to the WHD (which is legit safe) for a year once my student loans are paid off, but that's it. Will buy a permanent home in Ole Metry or boring-as-shite but safe Metry near the lake. I almost finished that sentence with "unless NOLA gets safer", but we all know that's not happening with a dogshit mayor, a dogshit governor, and dogshit voters that elected them both.

People always bring this shite up. Crime/murder is going down EVERYWHERE in the US. That doesn't mean that NOLA isn't relatively a shitshow.

This is NOPD's way of keeping crime down. Don't file the report and they don't show up in the statistics. Get people in the hood to quit calling the police for anything other than murders and that helps your statistics out tremendously.

NOPD's statistics indicate that it is safer than Houston, Minneapolis, and Nashville. You believe that?

ProjectNOLA has some really uplifting info on the crime situation

ProjectNOLA FYI: trying to catch up, 7th Dist units have just arrived on 7700 Brierwood, which was also a gun crime (which turned into a fight) that was holding in the priority backlog stack with no units available to respond. Units have finally responded and are requesting EMS for a victim who was beaten with brass knuckles. Still holding is an UNRELATED incident involving a child who may have run away from danger.

ProjectNOLA While we normally do NOT report such things in real time, I believe it important for everyone to better understand how bad the NOPD backlog AND downgrade issue has become. As we VERY often hear, minutes ago, 7th dist rank has advised the dispatcher to AUTOMATICALLY DOWNGRADE ALL 62A (burglar alarm calls) to NON-PRIORITY CODE 1 CALLS FOR SERVICE until further notice. Criminals already know that this happens constantly... and so should you. Although you may be paying good money for a monitored burglar alarm system... should something set it off right now in the 7th District... it's unlikely that anyone will be responding anytime soon as the relatively few units working elsewhere are unavailable to respond.

ProjectNOLA Again... just to help better help people better understand how bad things REALLY are... an emergency code 2 situation was just dispatched in the 7th District on the I10/ twin span. Rank immediately ordered the Dispatcher to mark it up as a 21NAT (miscellaneous situation - Necessary Action Taken) unless someone else called 911 on the same incident.
Like · Reply · 2 · 3 hrs

ProjectNOLA ... Another words... the incident was just pushed under the rug, completely, unless someone else calls 911. As per rank, the incident is being completely disregarded and no units are to be dispatched

ProjectNOLA And I may end this string with this... there are currently 28 non-priority calls for service holding in the 7th District with no units available to respond.

ProjectNOLA The only thing different today is the report of a child being shot. Other than that... please kindly note that the outrageous backlogs, rank downgrading items to non-priority calls for service, burglar alarms not being responding to, etc... are a ROUTINE AND EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE due to the NOPD manpower issue. To be clear... this is NOT the fault of the men and women of the NOPD, as they often work tirelessly, without backup, and without adequate breaks. The problem is that we simply do NOT have enough officers... and the criminals know this very well.

Agreed with everything you said except:

quote:

Get people in the hood to quit calling the police

this wasn't in the hood. She wasn't wealthy or connected, but it was a decent enough area of Uptown. It's happening in areas other than "the hood."

But, yeah, if she were sexually assaulted (but not full blown raped) again, she probably doesn't even bother calling.

They have French Quarter duty and don't patrol that stretch of I-10.

You're always on your own. Cops don't save you, they respond after tragedy has occurred.

It was a broad statement as to how to get stats down. Show up an hour and a half later over and over and SOME people wills ay frick it and stop calling when they need help. More crime happens in the ghetto so that's where you'd see most of your gains, or losses in this case.
