That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why wouldn't they patrol the twin spin area of I-10

ProjectNOLA
Last Wednesday, an 11yo boy was arrested for allegedly using a BB gun to rob a man walking his dog near Short and Forshey. The child, who ran away from home the day before, had no criminal history and there was no one around egging him on. It is suspected that the child felt that he had no where to go and that nearby ProjectNOLA crime cameras documented the struggles of a very desperate child... who after one lost moment, may have become forever marked as a violent offender. How did this happen?
Reviewing our crime camera footage, I saw what appeared to be a typical child his age, not unlike someone who may befriend my own 11yo boy. He appeared uncertain, taking short steps down the street while fidgeting with his clothes. It was not until I saw him take a position behind a fence and begin to watch people exiting a nearby convenience store that I realized that he may be the perpetrator that I was looking for. About ten minutes later into the recorded video, I sadly watched as the child again wrapped his hoodie about his head (covering his face), fiddle with his waistband, and proceed towards what was about to become a crime scene.
After the alleged robbery, the boy made little effort to escape and appeared to become very submissive. He had every opportunity to easily get away. I wish that I could show you the video of what happened, as it speaks volumes. Although I've seen many awful things via the eyes of our crime cameras, this video was the second-most difficult I've had to watch. As a parent, it touched me profoundly. I refuse to believe that this child's innocence has been forever lost.
Recently, much was said in the national news about a judge who handed down stiff jail sentences to educators who turned their backs on children by systematically rigging test scores and stats to simply make it look like they were doing a good job. The judge explained that the kids never had a chance to better their situation and that they would be more likely to fall into a life of crime, injuring themselves and others. That judge was right and the same applies here in New Orleans. Mismanaged schools, bogus community programs and local leaders who care more about personal gain than their civic responsibilities... it's all the same. It's simple, greed often ruins the lives of others.
So many local children are routinely subjected to the horrors of violence, without the benefit of receiving proper care, love and parental support. We need to work harder as a community to bring about change. The question I ask you to answer below via comments is what more can we all do as a community to help save our city's youth? If you know the name of a program that works and perhaps needs more funding... I want to know. If you have an idea for a new program, perhaps something else that ProjectNOLA may take on, I want to know that too. Teachers and school nurses, I especially hope to hear your ideas. Please, take a moment to provide your thoughts and insights. Get involved and don't give up hope.
I never did come to learn what the name of the boy in the video is. Perhaps his name is Adrian... same as my 11yo boy.

Damn, they got 11 year olds in NOLA with guns robbing people? Thats pretty crazy.

He was a good boy until he hit 10 and got mixed up with the wrong crowd.

Thats way out in the east, Not effecting me or any one I know. Crime happens out there and no one knows anything. People that live there can help stop this, but they don't.

I'll defend NOLA on here all the time, but NOLA east is a fricking war zone. They can burn it down and start over as far as I'm concerned.
Wouldn't do any good.. It's just like kicking an ant pile, they'll just pop up somewheres else

Situation is fricked up, but that image is so poorly constructed. Plus they misspelled "perpetrator" 5 or 6 times.

You're always on your own. Cops don't save you, they respond after tragedy has occurred.
Sort of. I think that a good police force that responds quickly and does a good job trying to solve cases is a legit deterrent to criminals vs. a shitshow like we have in NOLA. It's similar to allowing concealed carry/letting people have guns in their home. A household may not own a gun, but the fact that they MIGHT turns off criminals from attempted burglary.

Your not keeping it on the Southshore and it's a common misperception that's it contained when in fact it's clearly not.

I used to rock this shirt 8-10 years ago. It seems even more fitting now.

After a statistically non-significant increase last year, the murder rate is continuing it's downward trend as it has for the past five years.
i cant claim to have done any digging, but especially the last few years i have heard some rumblings that a big part of that is the improved medical treatment that victims are receiving.
on a related note, one of the real challenges with a post like lastnights is that EMS arent supposed to roll up to a shooting scene without police (and police are supposed to be at least in tandem on arrival). We have a lot of folks bending those rules trying to help people, and we should all hope that a EMS worker or police officer that is by themselves doesnt find themselves in a terrible spot because they dont have the support they are supposed to have.

No units available to respond will likely become the norm in certain communities.

Is this new? My last job I drove across the lake every morning and they were there Mon-Fr writing tickets to the LSP ball.

I never see this in Nola tbh.
And even if I did, that city needs money for the police department...badly.

Yep. The anti-cop rhetoric from certain communities will make the cops stop going into those areas altogether.
