How about a war memorial similar to the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. that honors all of the citizens of New Orleans, black and white, who have given their lives for their country? They're all heroes, not just the generals. Even Baton Rouge has one and it's a very moving place to visit. And it ties in nicely with the WWII Museum just a few blocks away.

I'm confused. Doesn't the National Registry Act require a process for these monuments to be removed beyond an idiot mayor and his race obsessed minions having a simple council vote?

Fun fact about that statue, it's positioned in the same place as Ignatius in the opening scene of the book.

That would be a cool series of statues. A lot of movies and books are set in New Orleans.

I'd like to see statues of Gilliam's kickoff return, Dempsey's field goal, Hakim dropping the ball, and Porter's pick-six. But those should all be placed around the Dome.

There are quite a few of these around the city, each neighborhood has honored its war dead, and most people ignore them, these days. :(

Here's good list of some of the different monuments in the city. Monuments List

It is, however, incomplete.
Memorial Arch is at 3800 Burgundy St. It was built in 1919 for the ninth ward, and moved when Francis T. Nichols High School opened.

There are a couple of these Uptown, as well, but I'm not totally certain where they are. There's another across from Holy Name of Mary Church in Algiers Point, too. Not in the city, there's one in Harvey for all the local men killed in action. That one used to live on Fourth Street Highway, and is now near the Marrero-Harvey Volunteer Fire Department on the corner of Eighth Street and MacArthur in Harvey.

We should remove the Lee Circle monument superstructure mound and column and dig a giant hole in the ground with a descending staircase winding to the bottom.

That would be pretty cool actually, a bunch of Gleason-like statutes.

We could even get one of Bush blowing up the levees.

A white shame monument. Somewhere where all white people can congregate and morn the horrible injustices that none of the black americans in today's world face.

There's one in Audubon Park, not far from the bandstand area, that is a memorial to the WWI veterans from the city.

I think that it is likely that there will not be consensus on any person to memorialize, not for a long while. I think the removal of the statues, especially Lee at Lee Circle, will leave a blank spot, a scar on the landscape for at least 20 years.
