Since McNeese is up this week, somebody justify that school's existence for me.

I recognize that there are probably some good things about the school. But it is still a somewhat sad little college. What do they have in Lake Charles that cannot be replicated elsewhere so that we don't have so many 4 year schools sucking at the teat? Are there programs that simply have to be in Lake Charles? Of course not.

I'm not trying to restart the conversation about which schools to close or merge. I want to take them one at a time. Somebody convince me why McNeese is worth the investment at the expense of more vibrant institutions. And if your argument is simply that a city the size of LC needs a 4-year college, you will be immediately disqualified.

(PS -- I lived in LC after law school, so I know a decent amount about the school. So don't bullshite me.)

Maybe because it's the only 4-year college in an area with 250K people?

If you want to shut down schools start with areas that have more than needed in a geographical area. NOLA, Shreveport, BR all fit this criteria but LC does not.

ETA: I didn't read your full moronic post at fist so I missed this gem

Way to disqualify a valid argument before one can present it because you have no valid counterpoints.

Yes there actually is considering that this is a huge petro and now LNG area. Both Sowela and McNeese are great at training the personnel needed to support the industry here in various programs they offer. They are both needed.

Too many people go to fricking college. We need to remove most colleges in Louisiana, but I think McNeese has a better argument than others to exist due to population.

Many schools around the state could stand being closed, McNeese isnt one of them.

McNeese is needed because *somebody* has to show LC high school grads they aren't really cut out for college so they'll drop out and learn how to deal blackjack.

too many people get stupid degrees from college...instead of something useful

I don't know a lot about McNeese and only know one person who graduated from there, but if it's anything like Southeastern, it foucses on its core areas and works hard to produce useful members of society...

Great engineering and nursing programs. Both of which produce well trained professionals that will be needed in that city due to its economic boom within the next 5 years

Oh and what a shitty thread

If we are shutting down schools we can start with the ones with the lowest graduation rates...

Which ones would those be?

McNeese will stay open whether you're convinced or not.

Colleges are profit centers, the notion pushed that one needs a college degree to be successful. I say b.s. to that... voc-tech or community colleges should be enough for 75% of the people in 4-year colleges today. Unless you are seeking a STEM degree, you don't need to be there.

Bottom line: not everyone grows up to be an astronaut

Several do. Sowela and McNeese do a great job of producing exactly what the industries here need and working closely with them to place people into jobs out of school.

You are dumb.

And you can't dispute that. You will be immediately disqualified if you do so.
