also had a CBA team, the Storm, I believe. I remember going to a Storm game and there being a Toadies concert that followed in the Hirsch Coliseum.
I am about to tell myself. Me and some buddies had some plastic horns and a drum we played and made a little dance to "the hey song" (not real name but you know the song). Went to every game and sat in the rafters. The team ended up giving us season tickets for our effort

Also if there's any old timers on here, I heard that the old Shreve Square downtown was a blast back in the 70's,
Yes it was

When was this in the 70's when it was the new school? They had a good stretch back then but haven't done anything in ages.

Taking your date to the airport to "watch the planes land."

I'm very sad this closed down. North wood and there is where I learned to play golf. My dad, brother, and I have a ton of memories on that short little course.
My dad would either hit the tractor or that metal building beside the par 3 on almost every trip. Once on the up hill par 3 before the metal building hole, he hit one that went into the 4 inch drainage tube under the cart path, it came out the other side, and rolled up on the green. We still laugh about that to this day.

Which became Pete Harris cafe, it's a shame Shreveport has lost so many locally owned restaurants, but I guess it's also that way all around the country.

Speaking of sports- the CFL Shreveport Pirates, circa 1996. Worst franchise in cfl history
Remember watching Billy Joe Tolliver playing for them.
Here are a few random ones for me:
Betty Virginia Park when the rocket ship was still around.
Attending South Highlands when it was announced that it was the GOAT school and still is since they announced it over the intercom.....ok not GOAT, but I think it was something like best public school in the state. Last I heard that ranking has still been held for the last 17 years.
Going to the original Strawns when some of the people who have their pictures painted on the wall still worked there.
Seeing Casper at that theater over by the Service Merchandise (which is a Hobby Lobby now).
Getting groceries at Food Lion.
Attending Captains games as part of the Captains Kids group where you could run around the bases and shite after the game.
Mudbugs hockey games (puck landed in my pizza at one game, still have it).
Seeing the Globetrotters at Hirsch Colliseum.
Walter B Jacobs nature park.
When Oyster Bar was a fricking Burger King back in the day.
When Superior didn't have a porch and Superior Steakhouse was Mama Ninfas.
When all of the BS on Youree Drive did not exist and it was Cotton Fields.
Hamels, obviously. One thing I remember was an orange fuzzy robotic creature that was remote controlled and rode around on a little bike at the front entrance of the park.
Having a birthday party at the original Sci Port with all of the Bill Joyce pics on the side (which you can still see if you drive past).
Speaking of Bill Joyce, seeing Leaf Men at the Strand.
Not a real distant memory, but seeing Quincy Carter play for the Battle Wings
I will have to think of some more.

Wow - good memories.
I grew up in Minden but spent a lot of weekend time in Shreveport.
The wife and I had our first date (and many afterward) at the Teddy Bear. We celebrated our 25th annuversary this past April.
My high school coach (Chuck Kelly - Glenbrook) played for the Steamer. He'd coach us on Friday night and we'd go see him play on the weekend.
Went to many wrestling events at the old riverfront coliseum.
My freshman year of college (January, 1986) we saw Journey at Hirsch. Great show.
Going to the state fair just to see people fight.

My dad and I talked about this the other day.
Does anybody remember when the world of wheels car show had Big Foot monster truck race the Shreveport Paddle Wheel boat in the red river? The big foot drove into the water around twelve mile bayou, floated on it wheels, and raced the paddle boat down the river. We couldn't remember who won. We also talked about how you wouldn't be able to do that these days.

Was that the same as KMBQ?
The Q was 93.7 I think.
A friend told me that his older brother listened to KMBQ and it played "album rock." I did not know what that meant, but his brother was cool, so that's when I switched from Top 40 and Kasey Kasem on KEEL to Aerosmith and Cream on the Q. They would play whole album sides at night.
I found a post on another forum that said:
quote:
For several years in the early 1970s, KMBQ broadcast easy listening programming (a.k.a. " elevator music"), with the slogan "Your Beautiful Music Station". In 1975, KMBQ abruptly (and shockingly to many older listeners in this Bible Belt market) changed its format to Album Oriented Rock (AOR), operating thus from 1975 to 1985.
I think the call letters may have moved around later. Looks like they are on a station in Wasilla, Alaska now.
