I actually thought about this yesterday. Are most practices full pads? I have been running in the FL heat and humidity and it can be brutal. I can't imagine having a full uniform on.

I figured tour kid would be launching bombs at the driving range like his dad.

LINK

31 high school players and 2 professional players had heat related deaths since 1995.

"The NCAA instituted heat acclimatization policies at all levels of college football in 2003, and such policies were included in the NFL’s most recent collective bargaining agreement."

If you're in North La it could possibly save your kid from legal trouble if "he is out practicing in the heat" while everyone else is sitting in the AC

As an official, I would rather the kids be conditioned properly than getting injured on the field in a game on Friday night. Yeah, I practiced for 2-a-days. Morning and afternoon. Basically collapsed at home during the middle of the day but I know in my heart it helped me to have better stamina later in the season!

As officials we have to condition ourselves in the off season too. I welcome the heat..and believe me I HATE HOT WEATHER. But I know to give the kids a fair shake I have to be at the top of my game as well...so I do my road work at 3pm in the afternoon when I can, work allowing.

We did, and spent the hours in between the two a days in the hay fields. Kids are just spoiled nowadays.

Yea bc our grandparents' parents monitored their heat exposure while working fields or other manual labor. All day, every day.

Side note, almost all hs teams have a staffed athletic trainer dept that are there during the practices and games. They don't take shite lightly unlike some coaches.

After reading this entire thread, it's clear nobody cares about the global warming factor.

Who cares if you did two a days 25 years ago. Obviously we live in a different world today.

Drink a lot of water, get enough sleep, eat properly, be in shape from training all summer, don't have an undiagnosed heart condition

Sprocket, in 1994,5 I would jump in the back of a farmers truck, ride an hour to an agricultural field, work til 1:30. I d then ride back and jump on a Honda big red and ride 5 miles to run 200 crawfish traps, come home and take ride my bike 6 miles to work out and run sprints dragging tires. I'd then go home and shower and go stock shelves at the local convenience store and sweep and mop until 10:30. Your child will survive. Just have him drink water while at home.
