I was downtown there last Saturday and there was tons of culture. There were lots of cops too which was cool with me

Time to start charging to get into the festival

This shite is unbelievable

Wasn't there gunfire last year for festival, too? I think I remember hearing a gunshot when I was out there, I don't remember if that was last year, or two years ago though.

They need to start charging. 20 cops on a street can't do shite about thousands of culturally inclined folk who aren't buying anything.

I dont remember anything about gunshots last year, but i could absolutely be wrong. I know one thing, I've been going to Festival International for probably about 5 years in a row now. I've enjoyed it less and less each time. Its enjoyable during the day, but once the sun goes down, i wouldnt be caught dead out there. Entirely too many people, and not really the crowds i care to be around while trying to enjoy myself. fricking drugged out hippies and common street thugs. And im not against pot. I'm completely for it, actually. but if youre in public, either learn to handle your drugs, or do them at home like normal people.

I think that there may have been hoax gunfire last year (or two years ago) where some kids made some noises and then yelled for everyone to run, creating some confusion and fortunately no accidents during the mini-stampede.

I was there on Saturday night and left shortly before the shooting. It felt like a mostly safe environment although was starting to get a little more sketchy around midnight, basically felt like a mini-Nola Mardi Gras.

It's been such a great festival over the years and hopefully will continue to be if there is an emphasis on keeping it as safe and family friendly as possible.

They dont have the numbers to barricade the entire area, and have enough people manning the entrances. They need to move the location, but no where else is Lafayette can support such an event, and if any facilities could be home to such an event, they probably wouldnt want to. My office is in DT Lafayette, and to say the area is trashed after an event like this is another understatement....

Now that I think about it, it was two years ago. Time flies and my years run into each other

Maybe that's what happened, I just vaguely remember sounds and people running.

Unless they move the location I don't see how they'd charge for entry, there's so many ways in/out of the festival, they'd need probably 10 miles of fencing.

Side note: I hate the tickets for drinks system but was shocked at the decent prices for drinks, beers were $3.50, craft beers were $4, well liquors were $3.50, and brand liquors were $5. That wasn't bad at all.

Maybe barricade a few entrances and use a wrist band system. Can't purchase drinks, food, merchandise, or get into concerts without the bands. Have cops toss people without them.

If any of you want to attend the festival next year, i suggest you GTFO before dark. Because after dark, the atmosphere completely changes.

Just try to avoid the club area on Jefferson. It becomes a shite hole at night, festival or no festival. Same area the 'stampede' happened last year.

I was inside of Legends when this happened. One of the guys shot was literally right out in front, I watched them put him on the stretcher. We were all locked inside for a bit. It was some crazy shite.

About an hour or so earlier, someone told me about a shooting at Nite Town. I am not sure if that is true or not.

KATC amended their article from a little earlier. Looks like a suspect was arrested that night. Wonder if the deceased was involved or a bystander.

quote:

According to the initial police report, officers observed "several subjects shooting their firearms" and one suspect was "located and apprehended". Police have not yet identified that suspect, or indicated what charges they were facing.

Even the dumbest know shooting someone isn't smart. (Except for self/family defense) How it's become such commonplace these days is ridiculous.

You never know what will trigger someone and once they are triggered they are not thinking rational.

I asked on here yesterday if public shooting have become more common or do we just hear about them more, but it getting to the point where it's not even a surprise anymore..

It was last year at the intersections on Jefferson and Vermilion right by where the pan flute band sets up. . I saw the little bastards talking about it then do it. One of them nearly ran over my wife, but I got in between them first. That little punk look shell shocked after running into me. (I'm not a small man, and I may have leaned into him )

They tried it again 30 minutes later, but the cops were forewarned. They threatened to charge the little bastards, so they all left. :
