You can thank Troy Hebert's dumbass for jump starting that. ATC shut down a bunch of bars on the north side and culture decided to hike downtown, loiter, and commit crime.

Ain't ever been to Festival and only been downtown Laffy once maybe about 4 years ago after a long day of Fred's in Mamou. Remember going to Marleys and seemed like a decent enough crowd

I was a Lafayette resident and frequented many of the bars downtown circa 2003 and always had a good time. Went around 5-6 years ago and was amazed how drastic of a change in the crowd and overall vibe.

Yep. Sad to say, but I started noticing the transition post Katrina.

It's Lafayette media. Gotta finish the festival before releasing details. If they don't the local political mafia will come down on those not cooperating.

The media here promotes before reporting.

It's usually fine

There's definitely an element that's been around recently that wasn't just 4-5 years prior.

Unless you are the person getting shot then it's not so fine.

Seems like it was just a week or two ago there was another shooting downtown on the weekend.

Not good. Not good at all.

My son was right around there, at 10:39PM I got his text that something happened and people were running, ducking into shops, etc.

The reports of this happening after midnight are fake and part of the damage control by the festival PR machine.

The cost of jazz fest keeps a certain element out. I'm sure someone was shot in NOLA last night.

Not saying your son is lying, but I was a block from this spot at a vendors booth until 11 and didn't notice gunshots or a commotion.

Someone on my FB feed said there were two separate incidents.

Makes sense, the crowd tonight got kinda rough after the weather started really moving in. It looked like there was going to be trouble.

Edit: The area I was in was full of really aggressively drunk and high white people, oilfield trash and hipsters. Not the typically happy drunk crowd I see normally.
