I was inside of the Legends Annex when 4 girls ran in frantically a little after midnight. They locked us in there for about ten minutes, then let us go. I didn't see or hear anything, but the cops quickly began ushering us out.

Before that, around 10:30, some drunk dude said there was a shooting in Nitetown. I can't confirm this, but it seems like there might have been two separate incidents, the latter of which being the one we are hearing about.

It's a damn shame.

When I used to drive for Uber, I did Saturday Nights downtown. Lots of booze, lots of culcha. There was always a powder keg kind of mood down there. I'm surprised shootings haven't occurred prior to Festival...

Like I've always said, by the looks of the crowd, sometimes this isn't a bad thing. One by one, they will eventually kill each other off. The ones that make it through will get locked up f o r e v e r. So, there's always a positve side to these senseless shootings.

And someone in another thread was saying how safe festival is

It really is. Downtown does get a little sketchy 'round midnight. But that's been true for years. I was down in this area around ten, and it was just a big, happy crowd. Nitetown and Legends get rough when the crowd clears.

I wouldn't avoid the event just because a few little local thugs decided to act like punks. Probably a few hundred thousand a year attend and I bet there are very few stories of the festival attendees having any problems

I'm hearing the person who died was actually the original shooter who was taken out by a bystander who was trying to prevent further shooting

That would be odd considering LPD is still asking for tips on who was involved.

If shooter was killed props to the bystander. I haven't heard anything else this morning on the shooting .

I just checked a few local new websites and none of them have any information other than the number of people that were shot and that one is dead.

Coming from someone who has lived in Lafayette for over a decade, I wish they would stop Festival International. I DGAF how much money it make local businesses. Its brings in a ton of disgusting people, and even brings out the terrible local thugs. A woman in my office (no pics) said some girls grabbed her husbands food out the trash after he threw it and began eating off of it. My cousin told me he walked passed the location of the shooting about an hour before it happened. he said there were hundreds of black people surrounding 4 or five black women who were fighting, pulling hair and going at it. Only thing the men were doing was recording on their phones while their women beat the shite out of each other.

I did not go to the Festival this year because I went last year and saw the direction the festival was going in. And wouldnt you know it, it was even worse this year.

If any of you want to attend the festival next year, i suggest you GTFO before dark. Because after dark, the atmosphere completely changes.

TLDR: Festival is terrible and getting worse.

From KATC:

quote:

The coroner has identified the man killed over the weekend following a shooting on Jefferson Street as 23-year-old George Ford.

Lafayette Police tell us one person was killed, and two others injured, just after midnight on Sunday morning. It happened in the 400 block of Jefferson Street after Festival International activities had concluded for the evening.

According to a spokesman with Lafayette police, investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an isolated incident between individuals in the area.

The two victims that were injured are expected to be okay. A spokesman with the Lafayette Police Department says a suspect is not wanted, but did not elaborate further.

Anyone with information about this shooting or the individuals involved is asked to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

So if they're not looking for a suspect that leads me to believe maybe what was said about the shooter being the one shot is correct.
