Had about a 7 foot hammerhead swim between me and my brother in gulf shores last year. We watched him from about 50 yards out go right between us. We were about 10 yards apart. Good times

same here, I was in Perdido mid July and watched about a 7' hammerhead swim up and down the beach for about 20 min while there was a guy paddle boarding not giving a frick

When I was a kid/teenager I used to snorkel out past the sand bars, that stopped when I saw a shark that in my eyes was 20 feet (it was probably 7-8). Scared me to near panic just watching him cruise along paying no mind to my arse. I had seen them before but this one was bigger and more menacing. The hammerheads didnt bother me and usually topped out at near 5-6 feet but seemed skinny.

I was in destin at the beach Saturday and a lady walks out on the beach with a full bred pit and I drunkenly walked over there and petted it for about 5 minutes

No issues

"Rare" shark event

Yea, saltwater Gulf of Mexico with sandy bottom. Sharks probably never go there except for this one 'event'.

Thanks, Mick.

Sharks are everywhere near the beach, because they're prey is there.

A friend is a medivac helicopter pilot in the Fl panhandle and they do runs up and down the beach regularly. He says the the beaches are normally swarmed with sharks

Yep. I've flown the beach in a small plane before and they are everywhere. Frequently very close to people who have no clue. The sign plane pilots say its like that every day. As someone said, if they bit people on purpose no one would ever get in the water.

mistakes by the shark.
When a shark bites you it's on purpose. He might decide not to eat you; but he definitely meant to bite you.

If bull sharks (which are an aggressive species) are so prevalent in the Gulf, why aren't there more shark attacks every year? I never hear of attacks.

they are just know to cause more "attacks" because they usually hang out in very murky water. so when they sense something in the water, they cant see it, they bite it to see what it is.

So many people are oblivious to many creatures behaviours.

They also hang out in shallow water where people tend to be. Also, they have some of the highest testosterone levels in the animal kingdom- which makes them assholes.

Always a great time when you go surf fishing in Grand Isle early in the morning and swim out to the sand bar. After hammering the specks for awhile swim back to the shore and pull up 7-8 fish heads on the end of you stringer
