Don't be fooled by sticker price. Discount rates are 75-85 percent at most private colleges if you have decent test scores

UT-Austin, UVA and a handful of other public universities are also very well-regarded. If you graduate with a top GPA from either you can go to just about anywhere you want for grad school, including Harvard, Stanford, etc.
The only Harvard Law grad I know has an undergrad degree from ULL.

I could not imagine having to pay for my kids college now a days. Very grateful that burden will be taken care of.

Now think of all the people attending those schools that get meaningless degrees (after a grueling schedule of sleeping through class for 5 years) and still depend on you in some way after they graduate.

I went to MSU and my coaching job salary with my club swim team paid all my tuition undergrad and Master's. Got my Specialist's Degree in 2014 and graduated with $12k in student loans and have already paid them off. I am 29 now and legit am a decade ahead of some of my friends. I don't feel rich anymore than you do, but feel much more concern than those who owe tens of thousands.

Mine got a full ride scholarship. That's not unusual at private universities. Almost nobody pays full price.

The most amazing thing is that most of my friends with these type of degrees are flaming liberals who work for $12 an hour. Such a waste.

My grandma paid for all of my tuition to Baylor. She's a hardcore baptist and told me ever since I was 12 that if I went there I wouldn't have to worry about cost.
I wanted to go to LSU but out of state tuition was actually more expensive than what Baylor costed after scholarships. It was a financial decision, but at least I'm not poor I guess. Would have been nice to be a Tiger though

Problem is out of state costs are very similar to what a private university costs.

I'm at a top private college in NE for masters. It's 60K for the program. 36 Credit Hours.

My son goes to Davidson College, which is $64k per year. Most higher tier schools have huge endowments and give generous need-based aid. They gave us over $40k plus a $5k scholarship and he has a work-study job grading calculus exams for a professor.
He was originally set to go to UNC Chapel Hill, but they offered no money, we simply make too much ($130k). So, long story short, he goes to a better school for cheaper than our flagship state school, which was close to $26k per year.

One of my close friends graduated Davidson. He's the only doctor I know who has an English Lit degree.

Can't imagine a man paying for his son to go to Bama.
He got a full ride. 4 years of out of state tuition and housing. All I paid for was his food and travel.
If any of you people say you would turn that down because it's Alabama, you're an idiot or a liar.

Way back when (in the '70's), Illinois had something called the Illinois Veterans Scholarship. Any Vet from Illinois that came back and resided in the state and went to a school in Illinois had their tuition/fees paid by the state. It didn't matter if it was a state school for undergrad or Med school.....public or private. I certainly took advantage of that and combined with my military college money lived comfortably.
Currently using this (IVG) and using MGIB (not post 9/11)
Full time student I make $1840/mo
Also get $2900/semester from Pell
