Another step forward. A couple years ago this bill wasn't even brought up in committee. Then last year it was brought up, but shot down. This year it made it through committee. Probably won't make it much further this year, but there's always next year where it will hopefully make it one more step forward.

A shame they have to negotiate a medical bill with a group of lobbyists that represent the people that keep other people in jail.

Older generation needs to retire and/or die.

Only then will there be progress in the South around marijuana and other ideas deemed "liberal".

I am conservative financially regarding welfare and taxes, but I am embarrassed by Republican social policy in the South regarding Marijuana and gay marriage.

So I vote libertarian and my candidates never win

Seems like a very restricted version of most other medical marijuana laws

Thanks for this heads up. StateNet did not notify me of this bill, and it's one that I'm needing to track.

To be fair, if “taxing the hell out of it” is the only way to get it legalized, then do what you gotta do. I am for smaller government completely, but in politics you have to make concessions to get what you want. 10 steps forward, 1 step back in this case IMO.

Baby steps. If it passes, they will see the world isn't burning and the kids aren't shooting heroin in 3rd grade.

Maybe then they will slowly relax the regulation and eventually get us on the path to legalization, where we should be.

Colorado, Oregon, and Washington are going to turn some fricking heads the next few years. Every violent crime rate went DOWN in Colorado and they earned over 70 million I believe in tax revenue.

Those are things people can't ignore forever.

I'm wondering what medical "ailment" you have that makes you and you so happy for this bill

My dad has severe issues with his back. Some days he's okay, some days he can hardly get around. On bad days, it would be great for him to have an option besides opiate based pain pills.

I think when most people say "tax the hell out of it" I assume they mean like alcohol, tobacco, and gambling

FIFY- Also pretty much describes my political leanings. Govt should have no place in a bedroom, relationships, or in what you choose to put in (or take out) of your body.

For sure. But I wouldn't hold my breath for Louisiana to make much progress.

when/if it becomes legal there will be a lot of jobless idiots in Louisiana that will think they no longer have to worry about drug testing at work

His pharmacy commercials are generally pretty funny. I would love to see what he would come up with if dispensing weed was made legal.

Define a lot...

And who's fault is that if the employer makes it clear one way or the other? Honestly if its legal, if your job doesn't require operation of machinery/vehicles, why would they even test for it?

I work behind a desk, I doubt my company would test me for it if it was legal in Tennessee.

And what about all those idiots that get DUIs and lose their jobs? Should be ban alcohol to save their jobs?

I've never gotten tested for it since moving north. Got tested fairly regularly when I was still in New Orleans.

Yes. From what little I've read about this bill it's almost not worth passing if your interest is legalization of recreational use or even liberal medical prescribing like in Cali.

I'm torn on this subject. I predict that if this bill gets passed then the legal status of weed in LA will never change again in our lifetime. It will therefore be just as illegal to smoke weed as it is to take prescribed narcotics that aren't yours.
